Vista Cruiser front roof glass

Hello everybody,

I am on the hunt for the forward facing roof glass for my Vista Cruiser (above the backseat).

Unfortunately, I have had no luck so far with junkyards and Facebook seems to be full scammers. (No surprises there!)

Would anyone on here have one they would be willing to part with? Or be able to assist me with sourcing one?

My car is about ready to go to the paint shop now, so this is the final piece to the puzzle!

I am based in New Zealand, so I would need the glass to be packaged well and crated up, to survive the trip.
Then shipped to a freight forwarder to come over to New Zealand.

Thanks in advance!
Brad Williamson

Hi Brad,

There were two styles of forward roof glass in Vista Cruisers. Two-piece was used from 1964 to 1967 and one-piece from 1968 to 1972.

For the one-piece, there was a mirror glass option. VC glass without that option had only a dark tint.

The big problem with this old glass is delamination (it looks like bubbles between the glass layers). So look carefully before buying.

Good luck!

Gary

Hi Gary,

Correct, I am after the 68-72 one piece.

Not concerned about the mirror option. Hopefully I can get one good enough that the trim will end up hiding most delamination.

Cheers

Brad, I have a center glass, but it is the chrome version. It has pitting in the glass along with some delaminaion. The pitting looks like the glass was hit with pebbles or somehing like that. I'm in the US. PM me if you're interested.
Thanks, Karl.

I just saw this the other day on youtube. I have no idea about the youtuber or the junkyard but I spotted a couple of Vistas in the video. You could look into seeing if anything is available for sale.
go to 33:25 in the video.

Build a plywood crate and insure the heck out of it.

Like Joe said, I would crate it. I would get some of that foam pipe insulation and put all the way around it. Go to Hobby Lobby and get some foam and use inside the crate. Insure for $$$$.

Totally agree, I have had some glass sent out like this for another car before and it survived no problem.

Its not necessarily the trip that’s risky, more so the people handling it in between.
