Seeking '70-'72 Olds Cutlass center console

Seeking original dark blue standard floor shifter console for 70-72 Oldsmobile cutlass. My interior in my '71 is the original pigskin dark blue and a console I bought is black. I cannot find a color code to match the original lacquer dark blue they used back in the day for the life of me. If someone is willing to trade me their dark blue console for a black console that would be great. Open to opinions or how to color match wisdom. Thanks
-Rick

This is the console up for trade..

Probably will be tough to find someone with a blue console willing to trade. You could have a paint shop color match your blue interior to make up a pint or so of paint for your black console. A lot of info out there on hop to prep the plastic prior to painting. The factory ones were also painted, black was the base color.

I already tried to color match it at Napa's auto paint shop. Failed. I'll keep trying but there is only so many paint suppliers around. Hopefully I have some luck on here. Thanks

Rick, I should of said, go to a body shop, they usually have the special camera to take a picture of your interior and make you a custom paint on site.

Try the Parts Place in Illinois they should have the interior spray color you need.

Correct blue hue

Been restoring consoles for years even developed a steel reinforcment that appears factory for broken hinge syndrome
nothin is as difficult as gettin new paint to match the old uv/ ozone affected
Hav achieved acceptable blue / brown / champagne hues by using light/dark primers
Paint companies can mix & even put it in an aresol rattle ball can by scannin say th dashes gloove box door or horn pad
& anyone good w/airbrush should b able to get u there
Best of luck & remember 98% of people will never notice if me or you dont point it out
Best of th best to ya

This particular image is the back of the PPG paint chip chart for the 1971 model year, but the paint codes for all three GM paint suppliers are in the PIM (assembly manual) for a given year. The codes are for the most part different each year. A competent auto paint supplier should be able to cross these paint codes to the brand they sell.

Awesome thank you Shock. They didn't have what I needed but had other things I needed that they sell for a cheaper cost than OPGI. Thanks man!

Hello Brett, wow. That does happen to be the exact dark blue console color that I've been trying to match with a custom paint code. How is the condition? Looks beautiful other than the missing parts.

Hey man well thanks for that info. You do have a valid point. I actually found a guy that is trying his best to create a custom dark blue to match the piece of dark blue interior vinly that came original in '71. I ordered a whole eight yards to have the seats and a few other things redone. I knew I'd regret it when it came time to paint to match the plastic trim in the car. Fingers crossed for the paint magician messing with toners and such as we speak. Thanks again.

(P.S. I'd love to see how you reinforce/reinvent the door hinge whenever you get a chance. Feel free to send a picture or two if you come across yourself doing one again.)

Rick - would you consider selling the black console? My hinges are broken and I have not figured out a fix.

word to the wise as they're about the only ones who should attempt this repare on their own this is no small undertaking
using my patented technique I've inserting a piece of Steel in there after taking it completely apart
passenger side of th console where the hinge fastens needs to be trimmed down to allow repair piece to fit in there properly and then test fitting steel reinforcement reassembling it somewhat to test fit the lid for correct opening clearance once I'm absolutely certain that is where it needs to be then it gets glued and screwed in place another test fit to be absolutely certain and then apply plastic over top of the steel reinforcement so it looks as though it's never been broke or touched and I put it back together , that way your kid can stand on it the way they like to I need an email address for pictures please and thank you

I believe I most definitely would consider selling my black 70 to 72 auto trans Cutlass 442 console seeing as how I did not fix it up for my car but I feel is best to entertain offers because if I was to ask the going rate I'd be afraid somebody walk up kick me real good right where it counts

I noticed a long time ago every console has a broken hinge or will have one eventually I have one that is repared & and assembled and ready to go I offer a repair service for the broken ones either fix yours or exchanged if you're in a hurry and although the engineers may not have put whole lot of thought hinge they more than made up for it without a crap you got to do to get down to it

believe it is complete..comparent interior..wiring..top pates..light..auto..single gate..I would entertain offers in neighborhood of 85% or above fair market value with your core
Whats your estimate of value of yours ?
Is hinge only issue
What items missing / there ??
Is any hinge breakage visible on base exterior ?
Has an attempted repair been preformed ?

To un trained eye or low resolution pix
have to take pix & post them
Area under metal cover would show fasteners (3) securing reinforcement but not removing PIA plastic rivets alum strip & cover for pix...have one tor down but not repaired ....month ago had plenty of time....now...not so much...

lower unit is broken no repair upper unit is broken repair initiated
& it apears a man wise enough to have recently made me a decent offer has made off with last repaired one I had available & that would indicate its time to repaire more...have 3 repairable uppers & cores would be welcomed so I dont run out...
