Looking for an OEM or NOS radiator cap for a '72 U code Supreme...heavy duty cooling with A/C if that makes a difference.

Thanks,

It looks like this, but with arrows that line up with the "ears".

Not really...they're two straight arrows that point out from the center of the cap towards the "ears".

Dave, is this the kind of radiator cap you're looking for?

Dave, I looked on line and found some examples of the OEM NOS 15lb cap from GM. This one is not for Y72 Cooling but it doesn't have the arrows you're talking about. It is however the correct service replacement part for 1971/72 Olds Cutlass models without AC or HDC. Also note there is no arrow showing direction to open.

Allan, would it matter if I have the Y72 option with HDC?

So upon further research it seems that since I have the recovery tank, my cap has the arrows like the one pictured below, but it has the ears and the circular arrows like the one in my post (#3) above...

The PIM manual shows a different cap from the standard 15# cap. I think those arrows are just to show the position of the final ear position on the bottom. Your car has AC so it will have the Y72 cooling package automatically added at the factory. The PIM says 15# cap for both systems but I run 16# and I also have an OEM factory overflow reservoir. It works. I'm just not too worried about it not being factory correct, and I'm not willing to fork out over $200 for just a rad cap. Maaaybe if I had a concours correct car but I don't. You need to weigh that in your decision. After all how many people are going to look at that?

Im with you on the $200 Allan...not for me..lol. If you could post a pic of the overflow tank, I'd appreciate it..just want to make sure mine is right. In the meantime, Fusick has what the original should look like (first pic below), but is that right, or is it the second pic?

This is my OEM overflow container. Not a repop; it's survived incredibly well over the years.

As far as the reproduction cap? Judging from the NOS ones on the market it has the right markings but is the wrong color stripe and Align Stripe with Overflow Tube. Again, it's going to come down to how much you want to spend. Personally I like the all silver cap better. Here's an NOS one to show you what it should look like:
