Radiator for 66 442

I am looking for a radiator for a 66 442. Harrison 3 core preferred. I would like a nice one, but can deal with having a leak fixed. Not looking for one that needs to be recored (already have one of them..........). PM or email.
Thanks!
Randy

if you have the correct usable tanks why not recore. Anyway 2 core or 3 core use the same tanks. I have the 2 core avail but do not know if the core is ok.

Randy, is your car an a/c car?
Heavy duty, would be a 4 core.

Is your top plate a 3 core?
What are the dementions, top &
bottom also side to side, from the
tank ends, (where it sits in the saddles)?
I may have one, not sure.

Non A/C car. 3 core top plate.
Center of saddle to center of saddle is ~ 28 3/4"
End of tank to end of tank sides is ~ 33 1/2
Height is ~ 18 3/4

66 didn't use a 4 row unit. The heavy duty was a 3 row and the standard was a 2 row. 4 row units started in 68 in the A-body cars. All of the V8 top plates are the same no matter the radiator. The 6 cylinder was the only variation.

I have a practically new aftermarket radiator for sale. It was used less than a 100 miles if that. It's a direct fit with no mods needed. I can get it out and post pictures if you're interested. I had a 4 row core installed in my original 66 3 row tanks and it cost me $400 a couple of years ago.

Randy, I beg to differ.
My 66 442 is a 4 core. A/C
equipped unit.

If not stock, it sure looks it.

66-3x2 442 is one of the most knowledgeable 66 442 guys on this planet.

If you not you do have an after the fact replacement radiator, where the radiator cap goes you will note it sits at an angle. OEM radiators in 1966 had a level tank where the cap fastens.

You're correct, your car has a 4 row radiator but it didn't leave the factory that way. I really don't want to come across as a know it all but when I can help with a little of the experience and knowledge I have accumulated in over 35 years,I like to share it. If you say your car came with the 4 row radiator, fine with me.

I had a 68 4 row unit recored @ the same time I did my 66 radiator and it was $475.00. Copper is high and my radiator guy said they no longer keep cores on the shelf and they build them as ordered. He also said they don't care if they sell them or not.

How big of a hurry are you in?

I have the original OEM 3 row in my 66. Its fine and doesn't leak, but with my new 455, temp starts to climb if i sit idling in traffic for very long (my old 330 could sit idling for a year and not go above 180), Anyway- have been thinking about buying an aftermarket wide aluminum one to go in it this spring/summer.

If you can wait a couple months, let me do some research on what I want to get, and I'll sell you mine.

I am in no hurry. The car that it is going in still needs a lot of work.
Thanks,
Randy

Yes,67 used the same radiators as a 66. There maybe some differences in the amount of units used but as far as fit, size etc. they are the same. There were no 4 row radiators used in 67 A Body's either,68 was the first year for a 4 row in an A-Body car. In 66 if your car came with a heavy duty radiator and it was a standard shift,it had the cooling line provisions but had block off plugs installed. The heavy duty radiator with auto trans was a 'FT' code, the standard trans heavy duty unit was a 'FU' code and the standard cooling standard shift cars had a 'FH' code with no cooling line provisions. There are about 6 or 7 radiators listed in the PIM but the parts book only lists 2 or 3 different units.

Ok, that's good to know. I got some recoreable three cores recently and they have the fill cap slightly tilted, like 10 deg off horizontal, as opposed to aftermarket's 45s.

Although an FU tag would be appropriate, FT would be more accurate, but if the car ever makes it to a concours level show, I'll gladly accept the points loss on not having the tag.

You have nothing to worry about, the OCA doesn't judge like that. I was just putting that info out for information only.
