piston needed, 66 330

I removed my pistons from my 1966 oldsmobile 330. I accidentally dropped and broke one. I found a company that sold them asked them about buying one because all I needed one.But they said if you need to replace one you have to replace all of them because they all have to weight the same as the other. Is that true. I appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks!

If you are buying a piston of the same type, it should weigh about the same as the others already.

Why not weigh your pistons, and ask them how much their pistons weigh?

If you want, you can make minor weight adjustments by grinding a bit from non-critical areas.

Hmm, it the company if Egge Machine they likely won't give any info on the pistons.

I once tried to get the compression height of their 350 pistons and all they told me was "they're the same as factory". Years later someone on one of the forums measured their Egge pistons and confirmed they were about .020" shorter than factory spec, just like most all aftermarket cast pistons. So the moral of my story is I wouldn't bet the weight is the same as factory, either.

HC or LC? number on the inside? dish size? any clues?

1966 oldsmobile 330 pistons

I'm in need of piston for 1966 oldsmobile.I can't seem to find one. Most places are trying to sell them by the set. Saying that you can't just buy one because they have to be the same weight.Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

This statement is true about the weight. However, if this as a stock motor that is for a daily driver, no high rpm cruising, As long as you are replacing only one and both are of cast variety, IMHO it should be OK. The problem is finding someone willing to break a set to sell one piston. They would be stuck with seven pistons and anyone rebuilding an engine wants a full set of eight.
