Opera lights

I have a1982 98 regency brougham and the left and right hand pillar opera lights are not working I think they got some water in them. Does anyone know how to remove them from the pillars and has anyone got a pair that work they will sell.

It's not likely the lights that are the problem. Check the rectifier in the trunk. Should be on the drivers side tucked up behind the hinge area. That's the most common reason for those opera lights to fail. I had the same problem with my 83 Regency Brougham.

BTW, to access the pillar lights there's a single small allen screw that you loosen from the very bottom of the brushed metal plate. Then just gently pull out at the bottom and slide up. I'd bet if you check those mini fluorescent bulbs they're still good.

IIRC in 1982 there was a chassis service manual and an electrical service manual. Both were about 2" thick and had all the necessary troubleshooting and tech info you're looking for. like this

Is the rectifier a small blue plug with 3 spade terminals one end and one spade at the other? How do you test? Where can I source one do you know what the brand is? Cheers Mike

Mike, no I don't know the brand. Usually when the opera lights go dead like that it's the rectifier. If I remember right its also a sealed unit. I took mine to GM and got a replacement but that was a long time ago when the car was only 8 years old. Are there any good electrical suppliers you could take it to in your area and source one out? Tell them what it's for and they can probably test it too.
