Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the club! Tons of useful information on here for you and plenty of people to help and point you in the right direction. Good luck with the rebuild, keep us posted on the updates.

Welcome to the site, I moved your post to the parts wanted section. Post a proper intro in the newbie section with pictures when you get a chance.

I can do a short block or a long block 400 G motor. It needs to be rebuilt but is standard bore. I really don't have a bunch of history on it. I have it under my work bench.

Email me direct for more info or questions

Thanks

Welcome,

If it's not going to be the original motor anyway then put a 455 in it

I think that is the way I am heading. Thanks. Why are they so much easier to find?

Well, G400: 68-9 only, 442 and maybe Vista only.
F455: 68-76, almost ALL big cars, all Toronados, and many if not most 442's.

Two years, some models vs. 9 yrs of all but the entry level economy models.

Now, if you want to really do it right, put a Toro 425 in there, and change the block casting ID to 396026-G. Then it "looks correct" but has a superior engine.

If you are seeking a 455, seek also the 66-67 425, and either way get the Toronado engine if at all possible.

IS the 65 425 with the A heads a scary idea? I have access to one of those. I need help to decide what to do here. I am thinking 455 is best way to go. I have access to a 1968 455.

As we talked this morning I can do a 68-69 400 G block and I can do a 69 455 or a 65 425
