Need new side mirror for Olds 1956
Hello,
The glass fell out of my Olds 1956 88. I would like to replace the side mirror. Could someone point me in the proper direction for purchase. I guess I could always purchase a 4 inch round mirror and glue it to the back plate.... However a new one might be better. I'm not sure if the stye will be the same. I see a set screw in the back of the arm. This uncovers to the base. I'm just not sure where to start. I have attached 2 photos of the side mirror. Any suggestions.... I don't think a new base would fit correctly...

I believe that is an aftermarket mirror which was common at the time. It probably came from Western Auto, J.C. Whitney or one of the many other auto accessory places. Try Fusick Automotive for original mirrors. You might consider going to a glass ompany and getting a new glass cut for the existing mirror.

Thank you redoldsman for your quick reply. I'll try those companies you have listed. My thoughts are moving toward purchasing glass and sticking it to the back plate. I don't think I will find the exact side mirror design, and I don't want to ruin the integrity of the 56 Olds. Again, I'll try and see for a mirror but I think glass is the way to go..
Thanks again for your expertise on this matter. I never thought It might be an aftermarket mirror.

As Glenn noted above, that looks like an after market mirror. In that era, mirrors were dealer installed accessories, and were installed wherever the owner wanted them- on the doors or on the fenders.
I have United Pacific #C555728 mirrors on my car doors. They look very similar to the originals. I got them on Amazon and they are easy to install and have lasted for years. Get the regular mirror, not the convex.

What they both said, except I put a convex mirror to get rid of the blind spot on the right and a fish eye on the left to make it safer for those who were around me, man those mirrors are small when you are used to something that is on a truck....Tedd

Thanks Tedd, for the information.... I purchased a 4" circle mirror and had my local body shop guy attach the mirror inside the mirror body. It's smaller by about 1/4 inch all around, but it works fine for me...... I'll keep the United Pacific #C555728 number in case I need a replacement. Your Olds looks beautiful. Of course it's difficult to look at the car, my eyes always look to the model first. ... Both complement each other!!
