Looking for Walker Muffler #22143
#5
Eric, it's for my 79 Hurst Olds. The "replacement mufflers" offered by Walker and AP are just a single outlet. The original is a transverse mounted muffler, like a Camaro, that has a single 2 1/4" inlet and dual 2" outlets. The placement of the pipe connections is important too.

Yes, that little NOT AVAILABLE at the top got me the first time too.
OK, after an exhaustive (excuse the pun) search, I finally found a company that can get a muffler for me; Waldron Exhaust in Centerville, MI. 800-503-9428 (John). They have what he refers to as the IPC specs on the muffler and he can build it in Aluminized Steel ($80) or Stainless ($160). I ordered the aluminized steel. His "Stock Sound" will have a very slight upgrade in the sound or they will build more of a Turbo muffler with more aggressive sound if desired. I went with the stock. Great guy to talk to. Lead time is about 4 weeks and I will post something when I get the muffler to confirm the product is as described.

I sent an email to walker for grins and giggles to see if they have suitable sub. I know there are a few similar mufflers that can be used with adapters that are turbo style. Just have not crossed dimensions yet.

Thanks Eric and let me know if they respond to you. I sent an email on Tuesday and never received a response. So I called them yesterday and they had nothing and were of no help. The person told me they didn't make anything that would be similar to the original. I even asked if they would make a run of them if they had a certain quantity? The answer was no. They did give me their major distributors and I called every ne of them to see if I could find one on a shelf. Nothing. I'm all set for now since I found Waldron.

Brian, at 80.00 you should order 2 just in case the other side goes bad. BTW, I sent someone to your PM about peak trim. Here's a link to the thread. I don't remember if you still have this stuff or not.

There are some universals with the same setup but with 2.5" inlet and outlets, the ports are not exactly in the same place for an Omega, go figure. Anything off the shelf may need new tail pipes fabricated to work.
I'll let you know if I hear back from them.

Hi Brian,
By quick deduction (LA Unified School District) I detect that you now own a Hurst? When did that happen? Also, I thought Walker was bought out by Dynamax years ago? I have and old set of Walker turbo mufflers for our Corvair, I was told they used to manufacture turbo mufflers for the Corvair back in the day. They are great mufflers.

No, and I'm OK now since I found a source for an original style muffler.

Yep, a 79 Hurst has now taken up residence in my garage! There was an ad on here by Tom442 for a 38K original mile HO in Denver so I looked into it and bought it. My brother lives in Denver so I had him look at it. It's not as clean as it was described but it's not a bad car either. I just tend to be picky. It's a well optioned car with a factory electric sunroof and Tempmatic AC too. Those are super rare options. Super nice tan cloth interior too. It has all the electric options and everything seems to work. First order of business is to fix the exhaust as it needs a muffler and tailpipes. I was planning to send you a message to let you know about this purchase and ask about your engine issue progress but you beat me to it.

Awesome Brian! So glad we will be keeping you on CO!
I am slowly resolving the engine issues. Seems the roller rockers are hitting the stock valve covers. I have a set of larger vc's on order. So much for the stock look!
