Looking for a running 455

I'm looking for a complete good running 455 to transplant in my 69 cutlass S, prefer late 60's early 70's 4bl. Hopefully a local sale in the Chicago area so I can avoid additional shipping cost .Ideally an engine I can drop in now to use and eventually with enough knowledge and cash saved up build it up into what I want. I'll also need headers, brackets pulleys etc . Pulling out the old tired 350 that smokes like a chimney.

Well I have good news. All of your 350 brackets and pulleys should swap over to the 455.

Have you determined the source of the smoking?

Low compression, almost no compression in cylinder 3. Most likely piston rings from what most have said. My plan was to transplant a 455 into it eventually, this just made the choice easier unless I can find a good local mechanic to rebuild the 350. I've inquired at multiple places in my neighborhood and no one wants to touch an olds rebuild for some reason.

Still looking, thank you to the few guys that offered a few out of state I'm considering those and I'm open now to non local + ship engines. I want a good runner with no knocks/leaks or smoke. I don't want to have to rebuild this engine until I'm ready to. I'm not sure if this is asking too much? This 69 cutlass is a late in life father/son project. My father is a Vietnam vet and retired operating engineer local 150. Six months after he retired his wife (my stepmother) passed away from a long fight with Leukemia. I bought this Cutlass to help him get out of the house and focus on something as well as spending time with him while I can. It's been great putting it together and getting it running but now we are at a standstill until I figure out what to do about an engine. Any opinions on what route to take rebuild 350/ replace with a 400/425/455 would be greatly appreciated.

Something to consider: My friend drove his '68 cutlass from Utah to my house in FL, badly smoking, no power. 7 of 8 cylinders at 115-135 psi, #7 at 0 psi. PUlled heads and found a chunk missing from piston. Pulled engine, replaced only that piston with over the counter parts, bolted her back together and back into car - he drove it back to Utah and another trouble-free 10,000 miles before selling it. Gaskets, piston, water/fuel pump, everything was about $600.

Olds 350's are really good engines, and IMHO RARELY need a "rebuild" to function well and reliably.

Google muscle car repair or performance shops online in your area. Most likely you will find one. Check with BBB in your area and verify they are good. Have them evaluate your problem and give estimate. You can tow it there and back if $ is right. You may find $ to fix is acceptable. You may buy a 455 online only to install and need rebuild anyway. My motor was rebuilt 8000 miles and was done wrong. Cost me 8000.00 to rebuild again. Be careful and good luck.
