Just a heads-up - the correct number is 400269. The casting numbers are sometimes very hard to read and it has often been mis-read as 400289 and 400268. But 400269 is the correct number.

I beg to differ. Both my '68 (with HD cooling) and '69 (with A/C) carry the 400269 water pump (original is on the '69; for both water pumps serve the 400 & 455 engines). The non-HD cooling or w/o A/C original water pump for '68 and '69 400 and 455 engines has a GM casting number is 398681.

I have one with original gold engine paint. Came off a 22,000 mile engine that I used as the basis for one of my race small blocks. I'll send you a PM.
