H heads dated 1970

I just discovered this great site. Need a pair of H heads to replace the originals that mysteriously went missing from a machine shop. Prefer a late 1970 date, but, will consider later.

Those are really hard to find. I have a set but it comes with a 1971 w-30 convt 4 speed m22 car. Probably $150,000 will get you the set. Sorry about being funny but I seldom see those heads on ebay or anyware. I will keep an eye out.

If those missing H heads were yours, it looks like you might own that machine shop now!

What is a set like that worth? Any markings we should know if we do come across a set? Did you charge the machine shop?

H heads

Thanks for the thoughts. I hear you on the rarity. They are very hard to find, and, if some come up, I have heard they are in the 5-7,000 range. I have never had any offered to me yet. The theft was from a previous owner, and, it wasn't discovered for a long time. By the way, I enjoyed your offer of the car for free if I buy the heads for 150. LOL. Heck, if it's a four speed, we should talk.

Since I watch the 71 stuff I do recall seeing a set go for $4,000 a few years ago which I would pay if I needed them. The market is off from the peaks so you may get lucky. I have been able to find some really rare stuff for my 1970 w-30 convt restoration like a NOS w-27 cover for $375 shipped. I would have probably gone $1,500 because it is very important to my car to have a perfect w-27 differential. This site is very active and people have some great stuff and are very willing to help. There are only 2 dates for the H-heads,and they are both in 1970.Mine are 336's,and I think the other date is 247.

The first thing you need to do is invite the machine shop to cover replacement cost. if they don't want to do that, then turn the lawyers loose.

These damn shops know what some of this stuff is and what it's worth, and there is no excuse, none, nada, zilch, for "losing" a customer's parts.

Yeah, it's a sore spot.

I guess more peope are aware of these heads than I thought!
3-4 yrs. ago, one of my brothers took the whoe engine to be rebuilt at a shop. and they said the heads were junk - but they had another pair for less than it'd cost to fix his.
He wasn't aware of the H heads value, and said 'go ahead'.
Couple months later, he found out, but they were gone - on who's motor, or sold!
He's also looking for a set!

The shop had them under their roof, and they are responsible for them.Show them what it will cost to get a new set,and just maybe, they will magicly reappear.

man, feel for ya, my body shop lost all kinds of stuff and then accused me of losing it myself or it never being in there in the first place.

I'd be patient. The one thing I have learned is parts always show up eventually for sale twice. once very expensive and another time reasonable if not cheap. Just have to be willing to wait. Or as others have said folks on this list have always been very reasonable!!!

My restoration shop photographed everything and gave me a copy. I liked that approach.

yes but even better, you should photograph everything including the guages running - "Oh sorry Steve the tach doesn't work anymore, well how do we know it worked when you brought it in, its 40 years old."

That's one thing I learned long ago.You have to cover your *** for everything.Nobody is going to do it for you.
Tell your shop I have a set for $5,000.00. Ready to install.
