DUEL SXHAUST MANIFOLD 455
I need to get the driver side manifold for duel exhaust that fits 69 B-C body style 455. Other years will fit but I need the one that fits to go around the steering box in my 69 convertible. Ebay has a new one for $229 plus $70 shipping. Will cost me about $400 Canadian so I would like to find a used one at a reasonable price if anyone has one.

I understand the passengerside is a letter "S" manifold, do you know what the drivers side casting is? For the non-dual exhaust I believe it's a letter "A" but I've not heard what else will fit around the steering. John

YEP
yes the drivers is the "S" manifold and the setup I have has the crossover to the passenger side. If I can find an original duel exhaust for a good price I can just weld a plate where the crossover attaches to the passenger side manifold. Option 2 would be to "Y" the pipe from the passenger side and run duel pipes and mufflers. Option 3 is to buy the Thornton repo but Then the setup for duel exhaust will cost me $1000 +

Hi Bruce
OK, so I had that backwards, it's the drivers side that used the "S" manifold. I've only come across one of those in the 30 or so years I've roamed wrecking yards, it may be tough to find a used one. I have seen a couple used ones on ebay so if your not in a hurry you might watch that closely. John

Welcome to the world of Oldsmobile $$$$$$$$. Yes they are scarce and the best way to go is to buy the repro manifold. How much would you have to pay for a manifold for a 2009 GM truck??...I bet more than Thornton wants, so, IMO the price is not out of line. I am thankful that such companies repro these parts. I had an original that was cracked and had it professionally welded by the fusion welding process....I think it was like 300 for the repairs not including shipping. Note too that the linkage on column shift cars is different on dual exhaust cars. It is formed with a U to clear exhaust pipe on the driver's side.

I have the "S" manifold on both my running cars, one with the factory setup with the Starfire engine. I also have a '66 98 parts car with the Starfire engine and it has the "S" manifold. I would advise also that you purchase the repro. If I was to sell the exhaust manifold, I would de-value and reduce the chances of selling the motor complete. It only has 67,000 original miles on it. The trans linkage is not a big problem. You can cut the original and weld in an offset to clear the pipe. If you do put in the duals, in would encourage you to include a cross-over pipe even though it was not done that way from the factory.

Yeah I know
Well you can always dream about somebody having a spare one lying around as far as the linkage having the "U" shape to clear the exhaust my car already has that linkage setup I am not sure why other than it may have been changed from duel to single exhaust??
