Dash Insert for 72 Cutlass

Looking for a dash insert for 72 Cutlass. The one that goes over the heater control and radio over the steering column and over the 3 gauge holes. Black and original/not cut out for aftermarket radio. Send picture and price (include shipping) to s.weber@charter.net

Thanks

I believe the one piece that goes around the gagues has a woodgrain....the lower piece could be either, depending on options....

Right, the one in my car has the wood grain around the gauges only. But not a real big deal if the lower part has the wood grain. Thanks for the clarification.

If you don't have woodgrain down around the radio and heater controls then you DON'T have any sort of overlay down there. That's the plastic lower dash bezel you are seeing and there isn't a black overlay made by anyone.

Smile Dash Insert for 72 Cutlass

If you're looking for the "plastic lower dash bezel ", that typically is cut out for an aftermarket radio, I have an uncut black one. You can e-mail me for pics or to discuss: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.

I thought that was all one piece....I don't have the old one out yet. But if the "gauge bezel" is not part of the "heater control/radio bezel"....guess I need the lower plastic dash bezel. My upper headlight bezel has wood grain and the lower is just black.
Thanks everyone for the info.....if you have one...email me with $ and pics.

The front dash of your car has basically 4 components:
1. Dash Pad
2. Lower Dash insert
3. Glove Box
4. Instrument pod cover
Do you have an Assembly Manual? If not I can send you a link to the area you need.

Webby - The pic below may help....this is what you will have when you pull the dash assembly off the car and then split up the various pieces. This is the "lower dash bezel"....same thing that Allan lists as #2 in his list above.

That's no problem. Doesn't matter whether you have the column or floor shift. The dash parts you're asking abaout don't change. Sounds like you need some pics of the dash assembly. I'm attaching a link to a website called "Wild About Cars" - it's completely free to join and has a lot of great reference material. http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/membe..._1.3_-_1.5.pdf
You can print the pages you want or the whole thing.(probably easier to look at by printing than trying to turn your monitor sideways ) Take a look and let us know what you need help with.

BTW, here's the link to WAC if you would like to register. http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...plate.cgi?id=8 The info I gave you was from the library section (download factory manuals) in the Olds section. Takes a bit of time to learn how to navigate the site but it's pretty cool and is growing all the time.

EDIT: Patton, thanks for the pic. Saves me having to go to the shed and take one.

This thread got me curious about what that thing is actually called. So I checked the Assembly Manual and found it referred to as "Instrument Control Panel". Verified same name in the GM Parts Manual Group 10.252 Part 413502 listed at $15.60
Cool!

Finally.....thanks!! So many of these parts end up with our "generic" names (which make more sense sometimes).

I'll take 5 or 10 at that price!! Tell me where to send the check.

Get in line....Doesn't it make you wish you could time travel and still have the $$ you have today? I know I'd certainly be putting together an interesting shopping list.

I know what you mean about naming things differently. We know what it means, but it's technically incorrect. Just ran into this with the issue of what most of us call a 'clock delete' plate. Apparently that's not what it's called at all

Webby,

I have a gold one in pretty good shape - about 1/8th of an inch of material is shaved off the right hand side of the radio hole but I believe the wood grain applique will cover it. Also, it has the cutout for the convertible top switch , but again the applique will hide it. Price is 15.60 (lol) plus shipping. If you're not interested, anyone else who needs it is more than welcome

Wood grain trim for the lower dash/glovebox was an option you could get in 72. There are lots of vendors that sell the applique kit for 72 if you want to go that way - about 135+ shipping.

That's a smokin' deal! If webby buys it, he will need to buy a new applique kit to hide the vert top hole. Any chance you can post a pic of the part so webby can see it before making a decision?

2 things to remember.
1. It will have the hole for the power top cutout. You will need an overlay to hide that.
2. You paint these pieces. Use a really good degreaser/dewaxer (to remove all the built up layers of cleaners/protectants) and then use SEM adhesion promoter followed by SEM black. After that is cured, you will still need to highlight the silver parts. Use a sharpie chrome pen.

Webby, here's some pics. A couple of things:

1) I included a pic showing the shaving of the RH side of the radio cutout - is right at 1/8 to 3/16 of material removed
2) Also am including a pic of one of the mounting studs on the back which is broken - all the others are fine.
3) Have a bag full of the fasteners from the dash disassembly you can have along with another bag that includes the A/C switches, wiper switch and escutcheon (actually really nice shape) glove box striker, center A/C vent assy, etc....

Let me know if you have any questions or need further clarification - shipping will be 20.00 to you.
