Do you happen to know the part numbers or pulley codes (two letters) for the two pulleys you need? That info would be in a '69 Assembly Manual (PIM/Product Information Manual).....at the beginning of Section 6 (the Engine section....drawings depicting various belt, pulley, etc combinations).

 

I do not know the part numbers. Would the water pump dictate that?

Depends what you're trying to achieve. If you want the correct sized/original pulleys for your car then yes, the PN and/or two letter codes matter. Once you start changing water pump lengths, etc away from what your car had originally, all bets are off.

Thus my question about checking the PIM....that will have the correct/original info for you (if it matters).

Another reason I ask is I think I may have a pair of pulleys I pulled from a NON-AC '69 Cutlass many years ago.....likely original and correct to the car I pulled them from. I don't know which codes/PN's to look for in my stash for the '69 stuff.

 

There are a number of threads in the forum with information on pulley ID and which ones work together. Water pump length determines which pump pulley you'll need. Crank and pump pulley need to be matched as well - in 70 or 71 the pulley diameters changed so mismatched pulleys won't work together even with the "right" offset. Pulleys are marked with two letter codes...knowing those will help.

I'm afraid I don't have that info close to hand or I'd post it for you.

Gentlemen, thank you for the feedback. I'm not concerned about correct part numbers just looking for parts that will work together. Couple guys PMd me with parts they have and will get me straightened out.

 

Do your homework or you are going to be buying parts that don't work together.
Things to watch out for:

1. Determine what water pump length you need. There are three different sizes: 5.1", 5.6", and 6".
2. Water pump inlet diameter varies 70 and earlier are 2". 71 and up are 1.75".
3. Radiator outlet nipple sizes vary between 1.5" and 1.75"
4. Lower radiator hoses are only available in certain combinations. If you have a mismatch you will need to use a rubber sleeve to shim the hose to the correct size.
5. Bigger 4 core radiators require larger lower radiator saddles and a different top plate. (unless you car was originally equipped with a 4 core)

Also you should determine if you are going to run a clutch fan or a radiator shroud.
