Alternator 1100855 1969 Olds "Needed"

Update: Tuesdsay June 2nd
Can anyone help me find Alternator 1100852 for 1969 Oldsmobile (with Air)?? I would like to find housing in good shape or complete even better. I appreciate the consideration.

Phillip

Updated: Wednesday June 3rd: This source that was used to determine alternator part #1100855 is as follows -
Dated 7/69 :Oldsmobile Parts Book...dealer/service item.

Anybody have any other thoughts? I'm guessing that several alternators could be correct; perhaps #1100852 & #1100855 work for A/C cars??

Good luck in your search. It took me a while to find the 1100853 I needed for my non-air 69 H/O.
Try sending a PM to STELLAR. He works on alternators.
You may have to do your 5 newbie posts before you can PM though. It is an anti spam thing.
Just make a few more posts telling us about your car.

I don't believe there is such a thing as an Olds 1100855 alternator for 1969. If you have a 442 with air, the correct number is 1100852 (has the internal voltage regulator, see the '69 Cutlass/442 assembly manual section 6-1, page 112). The same is true for the '69 H/O. If you have a '69 Cutlass with air, the correct alternator is 1100777 (has external voltage regulator, see manual section 6-1, page 110). I see no mention of a 1100855 alternator in either the assembly manual or the '69 Chassis Service Manual.

Thanks Cameo,
I 'm told through Hurst OLDS advisor; 1100855 is what it calls for for HO 1969. I'll check in the Stellar. Can you advise on how to check with STellar?

*My car: 1969 Hurst Olds going through complete restoration. It started as a nice car; not much to replace. Just making it new again and giving it due diligence with attention to correctness. My car was a cover for "Classic Sixties" in March 1983. And also cover of the book "Hurst Heritage". I've had the pleasure of speaking with the editor/author of both publications. Anyhow a brief blur about my car.
Thanks again. PHillip

Thanks Randy, I'm not much in knowing exactly some of the part numbers. But learning pretty quick. The car is a 1969 Hurst Olds with air. I'm told it needed 1100855 by HO advisor. I think I'll call him and see if he made a mistake in this number. By your reply; you are stating the book says 1100852??
Thanks very much. Phillip - Florida

I think I can clarify things here. First let me say that there is no such thing as "THE BOOK" when it comes to just about any data resource. It is a matter of "WHAT" book, and in this case, it shows exactly why it depends on what source.
Randy states things they way one should, as he cites his source. And I believe his source is correct, with all due respect to your HO adviser.
1100855 *is* shown as being for "442 C.A.C. or H.D. cool" 55 amp, which would be correct for a '69 H/O w/air. But it is shown in the "Models Thru '69, Dec '68" Parts and Accessory Catalog.
Important difference: The PAC lists part numbers for REPLACEMENT parts. More often than not, they are the same as the ones that came on the car. But sometimes they are *not*. They can be correct replacement parts without being the same as came on the car from the factory. Which appears to be the case here. The assembly manual thus trumps (in almost all cases) the PAC for factory correct part numbers.
In all fairness, I'd want to know the adviser's source of info.

Hi Phillip,
WMachine makes a good point. Sometimes the numbers just conflict from source to source. That was the case when I started looking for my alternator, as the alternator number provided on the AMA spec sheets for our car is just not correct, but that was where I started my search.
Was your car recently out of Texas?

I go with wmachine as well. I'm an avid supporter of his knowledge and attention to detail. There are some things I know, but I also know that wmachine knows things a lot better than I do! Sometimes, hunting down these parts is a tricky path to follow. I tend to stick with what I see in either the assembly manual (OK, wmachine, PIM!) and/or the shop manuals. But I also know that what they say isn't always what is. And I would suspect that is especially true with the H/O versions. For example, the shop manual says that the 1100852 alternator is for a 442 with air. The assembly manual says that the 1100852 alternator is for the 400ci engine with air. Is the H/O considered an offshoot of the 442? An H/O looks similar to a 442, but it certainly doesn't have a 400ci engine. So, does the 1100852 apply to an H/O? Neither book mentions anything about the H/O. In any case, though, wmachine has the right answer. I guess you have to decide where to go with it! Best Regards, Randy C.

Hello Cameo,

thanks again. My car originally came out of Florida (28 Years ago); the prior owner lived in NE for short time before spending 27 Years in California. I'm getting anxious for the final leg of restoration.

Hi Randy,

I appreciate once again your generous comments and time spent. I'll post again this evening regarding the H/O advisor's source for recomending the 1100855. I'm suspecting it could be a type error; but will hope to know later today.

Thanks again,

Phillip
