Looking for OEM 8 track housing for 70-72 Cutlass, would like to find one that is in good usable condition (Black)
My original was broken and is missing the broken pieces.
was looking at getting a repro. one but hear it doesn't fit the 8 track well

Gary, I have a black case, One or both sides were cracked and reglued, but its not perfect. I actually have the complete setup (case, front piece, bezel, 8 track unit) that I was going to sell as one but will consider parting it out. PM me if interested. Thanks, Karl

I'm the guy that builds the gauge and stereo housings that are based on the 68-72 cutlass 8 track housing. In restoring my car in 1998, I could only find players with broken housings. They were broken at the sides where the mounting brackets are atrached like 90% of them are i discovered. So I developed a repair process for these broken housings that involves cutting the good front vertical section away from the broken rear section, making a new U shaped rear section and attaching it to the original front section. The joint between the new and old plastic is hidden behind the rubber trim pad once it is reinstalled. My repair service is $89 + return shipping.
FYI, you are correct about the reproduction 8 track housings. I have tried to install a player into one of them and the player would not slide as far forward into the housing as it should which left the chrome lip around the tape door recessed below the woodgrain plate instead of sticking out beyond it like it should. Last time I saw one, they were also using common pop rivets to install the brackets instead of the correct painted head semi-tubular rivets that were used at the factory.

The bottom pic shows the only part of the housing that needs to be intact for me to repair it. I also reproduce the mounting brackets so it is not a problem if the housing is missing one or both. They are $30 a pair + sh sold separately. $10 each with paid repair.
