74 HURST Hood Ornament Script
74 HURST Hood Ornament Script
5-26-2010---Found one.
Ok. Don't laugh.
I know I can get a repro., but I have the original ornament on the car---just missing the Oldsmobile script.
By some weird chance I thought someone might have just the script.
Ok. Now you can laugh

I won't laugh, but if someone had the center script section, how would you attach it to the outer ring? It's low-grade potmetal. Remember me saying Hurst did not take any great pains with those conversions?
Or does your car have one of the aftermarket ones that had a plastic insert with Oldsmobile script, and it has fallen out? A lot of 73-5 cars ended up with those, because their original cheap-*** potmetal pieces broke apart and pitted badly in just a few years.
Go ahead and pay Fusick for the correct repop. It's worth it to make the car look right. The script on originals is different from the aftermarket piece.

The one that is on the car is the potmetal. It's pitted, but not too bad actually. I'm sure there are many ways to attach it. The problem is finding it...
I could always tell people that the big circle 'O' stands for 'Oldsmobile'

You would be better off just buying the repop for now. And keep looking for someones old one to get the plastic script piece from. They were just glued onto the stem. While the script may be slightly different, most people would never know.
I was not aware of an all pot metal orniment other the the one with the H in it and those did not come factory on any 73-75 H/O.

It did on my 74, and it was a 100% original car when I got it. Big diecast oval ring with a solid inner oval that had "Oldsmobile" cast into it in script that matched the factory 1970s script, on a painted black background. No plastic insert. The ones I've seen with plastic inserts, the script was nowhere close to factory style.
The two owners previous to me were both Oldsmobile Zone service people, and both said the reason they bought the car was because it was an unmolested original and had never been messed with. Both these guys were intimately familiar with these cars as they were part of the finagling that allowed Rooster Bush to get the #1 1974 Pace Car.
