71' 442 passenger side grille
#6
Jim:
I think the repop grilles are only sold in pairs. I purchased a set of '72 442 grilles from Fusick last year and the black paint around the perimeter was not the same shade or sheen. They were quick to remedy the problem; I sent the pair back and they opened a few boxes to make sure the paint matched before sending the replacement set. Shipping was on their dime. I've never seen OEM or NOS grilles so I con't comment on the correctness of the parts, but they looked good enough for my resto-mod clone.
I did have some fitment issues. The bright metal trim that is mounted at the leading edge of the grille is attached with a pressed on "nut" whereas the stock grilles probably used a folded tab to attach these. The problem is the repop fastener is too tall to seat the grille into the center stone shield. My solution was to dremel them down enough to fit into the stone shield. The other fitment problem was at the top of the stone shield. there is a slotted area in the stone shield that just wouldn't allow the grille to seat fully into the stone shield. I "dremelled" out part of the slot so the grille would fit. Not sure if this issue was the repop stone shield or the repop grille.
Here's some pics of the problems and my solutions.

Thx Rodney,
It's funny, I'm sure you're aware of that thread where this whole problem is discussed extensively. I just read the entire thread to get caught up on it again which talks about the exact problem you did. I will find that link and posted here for others.

I have a really nice what I think is a new repop driver side 71 442 Grill and want a passenger side. I got the new driver side for $75 so don't want to give up yet on finding the passenger side.
And of course now I'm very interested about the Chrome reveal around it to see how it's mounted. So I will dig that out today, my garage has been a total nightmare but I just got it all back together again so I probably can find it now LOL
I'm not ready to put stoneshield/ grill all back together yet but just want to get a bunch of things that I are not finished at least going again. But I really appreciate the input. Thanks Jim

I dug it out today and took pics, but they are too large to upload so I have to resize them. This one has the little press nut holding the chrome trim on. Will load the pics after I resize them.
Rodney, mine is exactly like yours, and I see yoir tweak👍. Thx.
