Ow

If you find the trans and have it restored, I have a tag for the passenger side. You just need 1/8” stamps for serial number.

Those tags are easy to find, wonder if they’re OEM?

No. The only chance of that happening is if someone got some at the transmission plant where they built them at the time. There was no part number associated with those tags. Nobody's ever provided any evidence of a GM part number in service parts. I'm sure it had a GM internal part number, but not for over the counter sales. They came pre-installed on the transmissions. It's not hard to have an aluminum tag printed up, though. Nobody will ever care if it's original or not, as long as the correct info is put in the stamped area. It's always nice to have repros.

Do you still need a trans tag?

OP didn't want a tag, he wanted a whole transmission. Although I guess he could save himself a bunch of money by just buying a repro OW tag and putting it on a regular OG THM 400.

The package is stamped "Group 4.003", but in the parts book Group 4.003 only contains complete replacement transmission assemblies. This is consistent with your statement that the tags were for factory use, not service parts.

And note that those pics they show you of a "hydramatic" part has a group number and all, but they're ALWAYS positioning the plate to cover the part number, or so they'd have you believe. If they sold the tags over the counter, I'm sure someone would be flashing the part number to prove it was legit NOS. People go to great lengths to sell you stuff and try to make you think it's OEM when it's not. Still, nice repros as nobody ever gave two flips about them back in those days. Why can't they be satisfied to call it a repro? I'd use it if I needed one.
