70-72 cutlass auto shifter base plate

I need just the base plate if you have a beat up one laying around. I am using a Hurst ratchet shifter that works great. The Standard console it comes with works fine. But I am eventually mating it up with an oem 70-72 cutlass console ...but in testing the base plate I made for the first hurst console just isn't working the way I like it too with the Cutlass console... it sits a bit too high. So I want to play with an original cutlass baseplate to see what I can come up with. Thx.

Not quite sure what you mean? Do you need the metal plate that the chromed shifter handle is mounted to? That plate is bolted to the floor of the car with 4 or 5 bolts? If so, I have a shifter where the chrome handle is broken, that might work for you?
Thanks.

I should of called it a mount plate that I made for the Hurst shifter. I attached it to the floorboard then attached the Hurst shifter base to this mount plate- the Hurst shifter base plate doesn't really match the floor pan tunnel area very well, thus the need for a flat mount plate first. Even though I pattern it sort after the OEM shifter base plate, it still doesn't sit like the OEM baseplate does. So I would like to play around with the real base plate to see what I can come up with

I do these conversions, and this is what I have in my 72. I take the metal plate, slice the upper ears off,and mounted a Hurst Promatic2 shifter to the plate. Then I mount it all to the floor. This will fit and function inside a regular automatic console and top plate without any mods needed.

I did my 72 back before I had a digital camera. Haha. I have developed pictures from roll film, but I can take more sometime. The factory shifter baseplate fits the contours of the trans tunnel, and the Promatic2 mount is narrow enough that it doesn't interfere with anything. The factory plate gives you a starting point, and you just need to mock-up the shifter with the baseplate, and mock-up with the console,to make sure it travels without hitting anything.

Great minds think alike! Hehe...well at least I can use the mount plate I made with the Hurst console. Thx Brian.

Scott, sounds good. Though you really shouldn't store your parts in your fish tank...! Email you later tonight. Thx, Jim

I kept the original indicator lense with the letters. I don't have the blue plastic slide plate in mine, but I did put it in another car that I did.I still have the indicator light mounted in the factory location in the console.

Just to be clear Brian, the promatic 2 shift indicator will work with the 71 console shift top plate indicator? That would be very cool. Now I just need to track down a top plate, that was the only thing missing from the one I obtained...mine is a his and her setup missing the smaller shifter top plate. So I guess I gotta find that long single piece version plate.

That is correct, I think you could use the dual-gate top plates, and the right side would for looks. You would need to position the shifter slightly more to the left,to line up with the main slot in the dual-gate top plate.
