'70 442 Grille(s)
'70 442 Grille(s)
Hello All,
I bought a complete grille (plastic pieces (4) ) from Fusick last Dec.
Just went to install and the headlight parts are perfect...the center larger pieces have 3-4 marks, indents, on the top of the grilles.
I know that the points (marks, indents) are from the mold ejector pins. I called Fusick and they sent me another set (which was great considering I bought the parts last December) and they have the same condition.
The grilles are nice but the marks are on top in plain view. Has anyone bought grilles from one of the other vendors out there or is Fusick selling the same to them for resale. ( I know this is a common practice to save cost on "tooling").
Any input would be helpful. The parts are great...but I would hate to have to fill the indents and repaint all 4 parts ( Headlights and center pcs.) so they all match. Also, I have no idea what paint was used when they were made, again the parts are nice except for the (top) indents. Wish they were on the bottom, then just bolt on like I expected to do......
Thanks in advance !

I don't think those would be that hard to fill and paint. Just take your time and mask the paint areas carefully. No one is going to see the 'behind' area so it's just the top/fronts you need to be careful with. Dan and Patton can give you better tips on color match than I can.
On a + note, glad to hear the parts fit well. The 442 grills they sell for 71/72 are not well thought out for installation and require the inboard upper trim posts to be almost eliminated. That means having to glue the surround trim in place since the spring washer will likely pop off too. Not all repro parts are well engineered. Your issue sounds like it's going to be easily solved though.

Ahhhh!!! .... a reproduction part with ACCURATE FEATURES! What the heck is wrong with that? Those indents ARE NICE....they accurately reproduce the factory look (same method-injection molded, same placement for that matter).
Leave it....that's what the factory did. Are you restoring the car or building a custom?
Pics below of original '70 grills...looks pretty familiar.
Put the paint back on the shelf as you shouldn't be needing it tonight.
