Hi, Chris
Not familiar with the cracks you mentioned.
Without knowing more, I would say the uncracked would be what I'd want.
I assume you have one of each.
It's been a while since I've seen one, but, that number sounds familiar.
I'll have to verify the correct number unless you're sure the J-398662 is correct.
Sold one I shouldn't have.
What is the condition and price of what you have?

Ed, here's a Toro manifold with the typical crack. For whatever reason, the 68-69 442 manifolds often have this crack. I've got a couple and they both have it. John

I have a 398662 D1 S intake. Has been sitting a long time in the garage. I will have to check whether it has the common crack everyone notes to check... I didn't know that was that common to see. PM is you want pics.

I can't see why the location of the crack would be a problem.

Ed, Octania taught me about these intake cracks. I was trying to come up with a good Toro intake for another car guy. This was the third one I had hot tanked and magged, the other two had cracks that went into the exhaust crossover below. This one wasn't that bad so my machine shop drilled a hole at the bottom of the crack and put a pin in it.

If your willing to accept a cracked one I could spare one of mine, if it magged and came out as not too bad. But I'm sure there's other members closer to you that could help and save on shipping. A crack free one would bring a premium price and be much harder to find.

I got a 4bbl intake off of a '65 Starfire (425cui) sitting on the shelf, if anybody's interested.

2blu & Lemoldsnut,
Thanks for the info and quick replies.
As you stated, the cost of shipping on a heavy item like this
all the way across the continent is prohibitive for me.
I'm guessing it would double the cost of the intake.
I have an intake off a '66 425 as well as some '67 4-4-2 intakes, but,
I was hoping to find a correct number intake for a '69 4-4-2.
Just for reference, what is your price on these intakes?

A user called Boldsmobile offered me a crackless J intake the other day

I had to pass because I have one on hand and ROP with its crashes and stuff is a PITA to use.

You can get ahold of that feller or one of the above.

I am 100% sure that 398662-J is the BBO intake for ALL '68-9 RWD Olds exc. the '69 H/O of course:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151531496831...84.m1555.l2649

As for the cost... not $850:

I have shipped a lot of these. Shipping is generally around $30-40 for close as in 2-3 states away, and maybe to $50 for far from MI but USA 48 such as CA or WA. AK and HI and Europe I am sure are costly. The trick is to pack to prevent damage. Observe post #14 here:

Chris,
Thanks for the info.
I'm familiar with Boldsmobile.

I have a line on one that's driving distance from me,
plus there's a really good Italian restaurant near him that I haven't been to for awhile.
He's supposed to send me pics.
Hopefully, it's not cracked, at least not to the point of being into the cross-over wall.

This was a learning experience for me. I wasn't aware of the chronic crack problem.

Thanks to all of you for the quick replies.

Here's a pic of the intake I've been offered.
Multiple cracks between the primary holes.
Any advice is appreciated.

Wow, that ones different than the ones I've seen so far. Can you have it drilled and pin the cracks to stop them? If they continue to grow, will they go through the floor of the intake into the exhaust crossover? Any other place they could expand to cause problems?

I will advise you to buy one from me if you still need one.

Shipping to WV will not be that much, maybe $40 at the most.

I have at least three right now uncracked, suitable for conversion to '69 H/O 405233 units.
