68 Qjet

I need a good core for a 68 Qjet for a 455. I have a 455 with a 67 400 intake so needs to be for the divorced choke set-up.

Tom, does your intake have the shallow pocket
for the choke coil or the deeper pocket?
There is a difference on the carb choke assembly
where the rod hooks up. Also the coils are different.
In this pic shows you what I mean.
The one on the left is 68-69, and the one on the right
is 66-67. Hope this helps.

I'm not real concerned with the choke. If I can't make it work with whats on there, I can always go back to the manual set-up that I had on there before. The carb on there now is a chevy carb and having some issues with it. Called Sparky to see if he had a Olds core to rebuild for it and he's out of those. Sparky said to go with a 68-69 carb from a 455. Still had the divorced choke and would work better on the 455.
I would be interested in the 67 carb since the 67 400 I have had a chevy carb on it also.
So email or pm me a price on the carbs.
Thanks for the help guy's.

If originality is not critical, get a 70+ core, convert to electric choke and block of the manifold port.

There's nothing on the manifold to block. The pocket for the divorced choke is a blind pocket, not a hole into the crossover.

Just out of curiosity, if you have a 1967 intake and choke setup, why are you looking for a 1968 carb?

I'm going to send it to Sparky and have it rebuilt. I called him and he told me to go with the 68-69 from a 455. He said they will work best and then I can still stay with the divorced choke. Why stay with the divorced choke? No reason. Just like the way it looks.

Rochester carbs

Tom Here is what I found.
The one on the left is for a 67 400.
The one on the right is a 66 330?
I can't read the #'s on it. It has the
old style flush valve.

PM me for any details...

Those are Chevy carbs. I'm looking for the Olds carbs. Thanks for looking though.

No, these are Olds carbs.
The 67 # is 7027036.
Which in turn represents a 67 400
Olds big block.

The 66 came from an old 330
that was parted out years ago,
IIRC.

That is probably why he dismissed them.
The #'s also show the 67 carb for a 425
engine as well.

I apologize Adam. I thought they started the front load in 66. The carb on the 400 I got and the 455 in my 67 are chevy. The numbers confirm that. Guess I should check things out a little more before I open my mouth. Anyway, please let me know what you have to have for the 67 carb. Thanks.

No need for apologies Tom.
You don't know, you don't know.
This carb would probably work well for
you after a trip to the rebuilders.
Only problems with it that I know of are
the idle set screws. They are brass, but I
don't think they are long enough. The choke
pull-off won't hold a vacuum either.
