68 Cutlass Convertible Frame

I just took my 68 Cutlass Convertible to have the frame straightened and found out it’s too rusty to straighten. Any idea where I can get a frame?

When you're looking for something as large as a frame it helps to say where you live

There are suppliers that offer 68-72 convertible frames but they aren't OEM. (google Art Morrison, Schwartz Performance, etc)

You're best option is to find a good used convertible frame or find a hardtop frame and weld your existing convertible boxed sections to it

I have a good solid rolling frame from a 1972 GTO. I'm in NY on L.I., front and rear sway bars, boxed lower control arms, $600. I'm not sure if it works for you.

You were told wrong. First, your four door has a 116" wheelbase. The convertible has a 112" wheelbase. Second, the convertible frame is fully boxed. Yours is not. Same goes for the GTO frame above.

Pretty sure I've seen aftermarket boxing kits that mimic the original boxing. These can be welded to a standard 2-door frame. Do a google and I bet you'll find something. The '72 GTO chassis looks like a buy to me!

The Hellwig FX aftermarket kit does not exactly mimic the original convertible boxing sections and may not provide the same torsional or bending stiffness as the OEM convertible frames. They were designed to stiffen hardtop frames, not replace convertible frames. You compare. Your money, your choice.

Yeah, don't know if any others are available, but that Hellwig kit looks poor in my opinion. Don't know what the extra mounts are for and why did they eliminate the original crossmember mount location? More trouble than its worth if you ask me.

Hi Tom, I know this post is a few years old but....is the rolling chassis still available? Thanks, Mark T
