68 442 Distributor wanted
I'm looking for a distributor for a 68 442 with a build date of the 3rd week of April. According to my resources, part number should be 1111468 and the Julian date code should before 106.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Set yourself up an epay search to notify you if one appears
be sure to search title AND description.
I got 1 that way a while back, it was listed in a lot with a Chevy dist'r
Technically they do not have Julian date stamps- it's YMDD: Year, Month, 1- or 2-digit Day...

Hi Kevin,
I advertised in Journey With Olds and got a response from a man in Pennsylvania. His old distributor that was in his '68 4-4-2 for about a year is now in mine. JWO might be another avenue to investigate.

Hi, I am trying to find info on decoding some smaller items; I am looking to see if the alternator and distributor are original or if they are newer than the car? If someone could explain how Olds uses the Julian system? What I have found is confusing. The alternator is 7H14 and the dist. is 7M12. The car was built in Oct.1968. Thanks

If your car was built in October 1968, then it is a 1969 model year car.
Your alternator - 7H14 - is dated 1967 (7), August (H) fourteenth (14).
Your distributor - 7M12 - is dated 1967 (7), December (M), twelfth (12).
In general, for dating in that manner, A = January through L = December. But some items skip the "I" in the alphabet because it looks too much like a "1". Both distributors and alternators of that era did not use the "I" in their date coding system.

Thanks
Randy, Thanks for the clarification. I realized the mistake after I posted. The car is a 1968 that was built in October 1967. I have many books on restoration, but none really delve into the details of date codes or matching numbers on items such as frames etc. They all focus on engines and trans. Regards
