Looking for the crankshaft oil slinger for a 62 F85 215, unless someone can tell me this motor did not have one. Although the book does not show one in any illustration, #3 on timing chain and gears installation says "Install oil slinger".
I see them listed for 64 and up.
Thanks,
Steve
I would have to look and see if I have one later tonight. I know people have forgot to put them in and not had a problem but I prefer it be in there. Did you replace the front seal to the one piece? If not I would before you put it together. The one piece front seal is much better and installs from the inside out.
Thank you! Yes a one piece came out and I am installing a new one. Debating putting a speedy sleeve on the crank too. I have not measured to check on availability yet, but will do.
Got a broken bolt out of the intake manifold today. I am hoping the engine gasket set will be here today. Then I get to start reassembly. I found a bunch of parts in the trunk that need to be cleaned and painted. And the new nice looking exhaust system that someone had "welded" in will need to be cut out and revamped so that the trans can come out. and then the whole assembly reinstalled.
The book is not clear but it seems the engine/trans assembly is installed onto the front suspension then the body lowered onto it.
So if you do have the slinger that would be great. I have a call into the local GM yard but he has not responded yet.
Looks like a nice car. I did find one. I would do $25 shipped to your door but prefer friends and family if using PayPal. My PayPal is jensenracing77@yahoo.com if you want it.
Yes, The engine, trans and front suspension drops out the bottom. Some people take just the engine out the top but I have a lift so it is easier for me to just lift the body off.
..................... exhaust system that someone had "welded" in will need to be cut out and revamped so that the trans can come out.............
Beautiful car! What I have done on numerous cars, to facilitate transmission removal, is to use two 2-bolt flanges and a gasket to make part of the exhaust easily removable. I put a 350 Olds in a Jaguar sedan years ago and we fabricated an "H" pipe with four flanges, so the entire bottom of the car was accessible, to service the driveshaft and trans. Just a thought.
Good morning, Thank you for your kind words. It is a work in progress as it has sat for years and there was the remains of a cotter key on top of a piston. As for the exhaust system, yes I have ordered a flanged union and will cut and install it behind the Y piece.
Thanks again and have a great day.
