53 Fender Skirts

I need new skirts, the ones that came with the car aren't very good, my question is, does anyone know if the skirts for a 52 are the same as the 53? if they are it would help broaden the search..

Not sure why this was moved as it was not posted as parts wanted, it was a question...do 52 fender skirts fit a 53?

I don't know if they will fit or not, since yours is a 98, but they had different part numbers, so something was different. They are the same for the 88s. Here's the details for Group 8.175,"Panel, Rear Fender Streamline (primed)".
1952-98 (R.H.) 561540
1952-98 (L.H.) 561541
1951-S88; 1952 & 1953-88,S88 (R.H.)(with seal) 562966
1951-S88; 1952 & 1953-88,S88 (L.H.)(with seal) 562967
1953-98 (R.H.)(less mldg. & seal) 562868
1953-98 (L.H.)(less mldg. & seal) 562869

Cheers Ozzie, yeah there is a pair of NOS skirts for a 52 98 on Ebay, I was hoping maybe they'd be the same but like you say something must be different.

I found some photos of the 1952 & 1953 Olds 98s in a parts book. There appears to be differences in how the lower portions of the "skirts" are treated in respect to the trim mouldings. On the '52 there are no mouldings along the bottom of the skirt. On the '53 a moulding is shown along the bottom of the skirt extending back from the "gravel shield". The book shows a part number for the '53 but not for the '52 on this extension moulding. The picture of the '52 appears to have no trim pieces on it as in the Ebay ad (hence no holes). The '53 is "fancier" as far as trim goes.

Yes i've been watching that one, seemed a little steep on the price though, when you compare what the guy with the NOS ones wants for the pair...$144.00

When I do get a half decent set, i'll need to find the rubber seal as well.

Nigel, From what I have researched the 1952 Olds "98" skirts look the very same as the '53 "98" skirts, but the chrome on the Quarter panel changed pattern, and they made the chrome to go on the bottom of the skirts of the '53 to match up to the updated quarter panel chrome. My guess would be that the '52 skirt would fit but would not be period correct for the '53! Larry

Cheers Larry, I'm gonna keep an eye on that one for $135, it's $87 shipping to the UK, then there is the customs charge this end...around $250 all in, a lot of dough for one skirt.
So hopefully it wont sell and he'll drop the price

Yes, that is sorta like finding one really nice looking boot, but both feet are still intact. Reminds me of the one legged man, that tried to find a lawyer to sue his wife, after she about cleaned him out in a divorce. The lawyer told him no , you don't have a "leg to stand on ".
Sorry, Larry

Update;
I sent a whole heap of pics with measurements of my Skirts to the guy selling the NOS ones for the 52, and he said they are all spot on with his...he also said i could send them back if they still turned out to be wrong....So I bought them, watch this space lol

PS could an admin move this thread back to the main page as it's not a WTB?

OK...the 1952 Olds 98 Fender Skirts do indeed fit a 1953, they are exactly the same!! there is only one small difference....in 53 they added a lower trim piece to the Skirt, the PT #'s are different for that reason only, but this in no way changes the shape between the Skirts from 52 through 53.
I just have to drill a few holes using my old ones as a template to attach the lower trim....score! pair of NOS Fender Skirts, I'm a happy Brit.

Thanks for the update. It's always nice to hear about the good outcomes, especially with original parts.
