I am looking for a set of 4.33 gears for my 66 L69. It currently has SJ (3.55) gears and I want something a bit lower. Can anyone point me in the best direction?

You will be sorry about that if you want to drive it-----I bought a 65 GTO new with that gear and its sitting in the garage today with less than 20k on the clock just because it was so hateful to drive with that gear......Good luck on your search

 

I am pretty familiar with the pros and cons of these rear end ratios. One of the nice things is you can run a little bigger tire and get a bit more traction. This car will will see very little of the highway.

 

My GTO has seen very little of the highway either---it hasn't been off of our property since 1980......I also know a little about gears. My race car (olds) has a 4.44 gear in it that I just put in to replace a 4.40 to get just a little more at the starting line. Been playing around from 4.33 to 4.56 just to find a sweet spot.......I'll keep my eyes open around here as these NASCAR guys come up with all kinds of strange stuff for about any rear you can think of----just have to pay attention.
