Here's another one. It apparently needs *****, but I wouldn't think those would be too hard to find. Maybe this same seller has some. If not, there are lots radios on ebay being sold "untested" or "as is". Buy one of those with decent ***** and use those.
the first two look like 71-73 to me,pretty sure they changed the dash for 74-76 and the radios have considerably longer dials to reach through the dash
That's true about the '74 to '76 (and '77 and '78 Toronado) dashes. They were forward slanting, so the radios needed longer *****. I don't think the dials were any different nor the length of the shafts. Just the length of the *****.
Here's the dash and radio in my '78 Toro, which would be the same as in a '75 Delta 88. The rectangular dial portion is the normal size and depth. But the forward-slanted opening forces the radio to sit farther back in the opening. The ***** have longer shafts to accommodate this.
So I think any pre-74 radio out of a full-size Olds would work, but he would need to find ***** from a '74 through '76.
10-4 jaunty, you are right about the *****,the radio dials aren't longer.i believe i have some of those long *****.i think i got confused with a caddy radio that had longer dials than the olds.
It was a Delta 88. I believe it was a later '70s, but I'm sorry it was so long ago I can't remember! I got it to put in my daily driver 88 at the time, but that car was the victim of black ice on a NY Thruway overpass one Christmas Eve. The radio never made it into it. Miss the car, still have this radio decades later. I should be able to figure out the year based on the side label.

The sticker says part number 16009960 which looks to be 82-3 G body, '82-4 B body, and '82 F body. So perhaps too late for yourself. I must have gotten it from a 1982 88.
If you can tell me how to ID the correct radio for you,I have about 70 radios that I removed from 60's and 70's cars, many are AM/FM About the only thing I know is that early and later radios had a diff. spacing between the volumne and tuner shafts
