1972 Cutlass 442 Radio

I'm looking for a working radio, preferably original, to fit my 1972 Cutlass 442. I'm especially interested in an AM/FM radio with a cassette or 8-track player.

There will be no factory cassette or integrated 8-track option for 72. Options were: AM, AM-FM mono, AM-FM stereo. You could get 8-track with all of them but it's a separate unit that mounts underdash. I can't remember if 72 Cutlass stereo radio was an integrated unit or if it still had a separate stereo convetor amp.

My experience is that aftermarket shaft mount 8-track or cassette radios don't fit that well in the factory dash opening- the factory shaft spacing is wider. Some aftermarkets have adjustable shaft spacing but you'll probably still end up cutting the dash a little. 73-later factory radios don't fit the earlier dashes much better.

What a lot of guys do is get a factory 8-track housing and mount a cassette or CD unit in that, and just keep the factory radio in the dash for looks. That gives you more oprions as far as later DIN style head units.

Thanks for the great info, I'm trying to keep it as original as possible!
