Hello. Looking for a factory stock 1971 "OG" TH400 transmission for my '71 442. Do not want one with any modifications. Thanks, Anthony

Where are you located? I have one and I feel sure it has never been apart but I can not guarantee that. I know nothing about it other than it was pulled in the early 90s. I am not big on shipping it but if you arrange all the shipping I can strap it to a pallet and it can be picked up from a business address. Send me a PM if interested.

Hello,

How much do you want for the transmission? Is the transmission factory stock and operable?

Thanks,
Anthony

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, I'm located in Pennsylvania.

Thank you for the response. If I do not find a suitable '71 OG trans, I may consider other years. I'll keep it in mind.

Unfortunately, needs to be a '71 OG trans, as the 442 is being restored to original condition. Oldsmobile also reprogramed & strengthened the '71 OG trans to almost the W-30 trans specs & performance, so as to make up for the lower compression that year.

I believe the 71 SX also had the OG trans.

I believe you are correct, I forgot about the SX trans. Not sure if built to same specs as the 442 trans, will need to check - especially since engine selection no longer offered 442 engine with the a W-32 option.

I wouldn't worry so much about build specs.
Anything rebuilt can be custom tailored to your application, and far superior to the way they were built 42 years ago.

The SX had an OD transmission in 71. I believe the only differences between the OD and OG is contained in the valve body. Look in the 71 Chassis Manual and it indicates the differences. Only the OW transmission, got the thicker drum with 6 discs and used a flat plate in lieu of the waved plate in the direct clutch pack. I have an OD in my SX and a OG in my 442, as well as a spare OD transmission I have kept in case my original needs parts. Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the input. Is there anyway to tell if the valve body was modified while looking at it in the trans, and if the gasket/plate is factory spec - compared to being from a "shift kit". Anthony
