1970 Aluminum Thermostat Housing

Hello,
Seeking an NOS aluminum thermostat housing/water neck for 1970 Oldsmobile engine. Must be exceptionally clean. I believe the correct part number 404632 and #5 in the casting. Any assistance in locating will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Brett,

Thank you kindly for your assistance. If possible, I wish to purchase the two 404632 #5 thermostat housings shown in photos. Appears to be slightly different castings. Please confirm if ok?

Yes, There were two different #5 castings in 70. The one that has the thicker "more bold" 5 is more rare and most often not wanted on restorations for some reason. I do not believe you are going to find one NOS. I believe there was a service bulletin on these and to replace them when they came into the service shops. I think they were discontinued in late 70 maybe? I have a pile of them but none of them are very good.

Hey Jim, I will have to check those out tomorrow or Saturday, we are out of power now, and I have some other priorities. If I have two (2) types of castings which would you prefer, or does it even matter as long as they match?

Eric would you have any ot that documentation you could share with me on that bulletin?

I was looking for it here last night and could not find it. Someone posted it a couple years ago on a thread. That is the only place I seen it and can't say I remember exactly what it says.

Most of these are not flat anymore on the bottom side. I just take a full sheet of 100 sandpaper on a flat surface and run the outlet over it in a circle or 8 pattern and it will flatten it right out.

I didn't know these existed. A nice cleaned up polished aluminum one would like nice on the aluminum intake.

Wish i'd seen these before I put it all back together.

Very cool! I believe that is what I was remembering. Was not real clear in my memory since then.
