If you're looking for a W30 engine, count on paying beaucoup bucks to get the heads/intake/carb/distributor.

If you want a W34 Toronado engine, you might luck up and find someone parting out a GT, though that's why most of them get parted is because someone wants to steal the engine for a Cutlass.

If you're talking about the Hemi, dream on. I don't think the REOTM is desperate enough to sell theirs just yet...

If all you want is a 1970 455, they were in every Ninety Eight and Toronado built, and in a whole lot of Deltas. Anywhere from 310 to 375 horsepower versions at your command. Just don't rape a nice big car just to get its 455, and you'll be fine.

@rocketraider thanks for the info! I just read about the Toronado GT from that year and the output was +25hp!

@svnt442 and @mmurphy77 why the ??'s

I'm just getting into this and I've learned how the 1970 455 was the highest ouput from factory... over 500ftlbs of torque and upwards to 400hp???

There was more than 1 455 made in 1970. At least 3 different ones in the Cutlass/442 alone. Then you have the big cars (88/98) and the Toro engines. Hence the ???.

It really doesn't matter what year WAS the best because the engine will be rebuilt,& with today's technology,it can make a bunch more than it did anyway. Even if you have a bone stock, never been apart,70 w30 engine,it is not making the same power today,& is probably weazing it's way out. The car below can be driven anywhere, gets 14mpg,& runs dead-consistent 11:40's in an all steel car, with full factory interior, full exhaust,& drag radials,3850lbs.The only way a stock W30 or W34 will do that is if you put it in a potato chip car.
Also, there was NOTHING special about the 70 W30 or W34 blocks,as some seem to think. They came out of the same oven as the rest of them. The cam & the top-end components is what set them apart.
If you just need a good 70 455 core,or any 455 core for that matter,I have them.

Don't get hung up on the factory horsepower ratings. They had more to do with marketing and GM corporate rules than with facts.

The '70 Toronado GT engine used E heads instead of the F heads of the W-30. It used the same cam as the automatic W-30, which was actually the same cam as every automatic 442 in 1970, which is way milder than the cam used in the manual W-30. And the GT used the pancaked intake manifold, which is generally thought to be lower performance than the taller one used on other 455s.

Given all that, would you like to explain to me how the Toro GT could have 30 more horsepower than the radical manual trans W-30? And 35 more horsepower than the same engine when installed in an automatic 442?

Sooo much to learn here... Thanks for the info guys! [learning phases in being one of the newbies...]
LoL!

Since the core's are relatively common, I'm focusing on what I have now termed "carry-on" parts like the heads being that it would not make logic to ship something @ frieght weight from afar.

Thanks!

Do everyone a favor here. Set a budget, and a horsepower goal.
That determines what you need.

As I said before, call me @ 954-849-6998. I'm in Deerfield Beach, just north of Ft. Lauderdale.

"Budgets make no sense these days, it's more wiser to merely set realistic & attainable goals" - Prophe'C

In any event, the post was for a 1970 455 that might have already been complete and semi-turn key as I was going to drop a specific set of heads on the block...

Anyhuu, I've found plenty of contacts thanks to this thread who can assist.

Thanks!
