Looking for a clean, as little pitting as possible, 1970 12 bolt Cutlass/442 rear end housing or complete rear. Casting on pumpkin should be 402227. Willing to pay $300 for clean housing. Anywhere in country. Closer to Connecticut, is better. Need this immediately.

 

Well.... I have several of the Type O rear ends, the ones with 12 bolts holding the inspection cover on and 10 bolts holding the ring gear to the carrier. I believe these were used from sometime in the 1967 production year through 1970. I believe that's what your describing. But I'm in Oregon, I'm sure there are several guys much closer to you with extra's of these. John

 

Yes, in 1970 the rear was a 12 bolt cover, 10 bolt ring gear. I need a legit 1970 rear with casting 402227, not a 1967-69 with 394139 casting. 1970 rear will also have axle seals on the outside of the bearings.

So, if you have a housing that is clean, I'd like to buy it. I don't want the internals, just the housing.

It can be sent via UPS as a bare housing.

I have a complete rear that came out of a 1970 442 pace car. It was kind of rusty, I will have to get some pix. I have not seen it in years, it's in my old shed at a relatives house. It is a type O with 12 bolt cover. I live in Mendon MA. Let me know if you find something else, in the mean time I will try to get a look at what I have.

 

bigblockolds, mine are complete and I'm not sure I'll have time to strip one until sometime next week. If scrappie's is too rusty for your project and Threejdolds has the time to strip his you might also check with FedEx ground. I shipped a 1974 Cutlass bumper with supports weighing 110 pounds and they were cheaper than other shippers for a package that size and weight. John

Also describe how quickly you can have housing wrapped in cardboard for UPS to pick up.

I'm not interested in a complete rear as UPS will not take a complete rear due to the weight, it needs to be under 150 lbs.

No, thanks though. I got one a couple weeks ago from a Chevy guy on ebay who had it. Got it rebuilt, restored it and it's ready to go in.
