1969 Cutlass Ignition Lock Cylinder and Key

Our 1969 Cutlass S convertible needs the ignition lock cylinder replaced. My understanding is this is a one-year only deal, but please correct me if I am wrong. We want to use the correct part even if another may work; the car is extremely original. NOS, used but primo condition, whatever will do. I do not want to do this job more than once.

Part number for 69 only 7025216. It's the brushed/satin silver switch head.

Would this be the part number you're referring to? Found it in an old post for sale when looking.

Here is what a '69 ignition lock cylinder looks like. They are unique to the '69 Olds model year. They use an "E" key.

I think they used them in Camaros and others as well, but only in 69. I could be mistaken. The 1970 version is similar, but is chrome instead of the brushed look.

Keep in mind that GM cycled through key blanks on four year centers, so 1969, 73, and 77 use the same key. Cylinders from other years will work but will not have the correct key blank. Also note that if you care about correctness, the 1969 cylinders have that red triangle which is what makes them unique to the 1969 model year. It doesn't effect function, just optics.

Were these for all 1969 Olds or just specific models like the 442? Ours is a Cutlass S, so want to ensure I am going the original route.

AFAIK, ALL 69 Olds came with this type of ignition lock from the factory. F85, Delta, 442, Hurst, etc.

Thank you for the clarification. Ours has been swapped out to a later replacement type. Since it has some problems, I am thinking the sector and rack setup is worn out, so ordered some parts to deal with that. But need to get the red triangle treatment going, too.
