Looking to change gears and add posi or in a perfect world find a year matching rear end set. Has a R2 axle now so wondering what my options were in adding a better gear (low to mid 3s and posi) or if anyone had a year correct axle for sale. I live in Georgia. I have 1969 442 4 speed manual with AC and drum brakes.

 

R2 is a 2.56 ratio so you would need gears and a new carrier for your O-Type housing.

Factory O-Type ratios were 2.56, 2.78, 3.08, 3.23, 3.42, 3.91. 4.33, 4.66, and 5.00 were also available.

Carrier breaks were 2.56-2.78, 3.08-3.23, and 3.42-5.00.

Richmond Gear made several ratios (3.42, 3.90, 4.10) to fit the 3.08-3.23 carrier, if you can find them.

There are new posi carriers that are Ford 8.8 units machined for the O-Type gears. These are also designed for 3.08-3.23 compatible gear sets.
