I think your best bet would be to look for a car that they're parting out or buy a parts car as you're going to need the core support and hood at least to make the change over and all the other little things like headlight housings and all and bumper as well. It might be better to sell yours and look for a 68.

It sounds like you have a 69 already. Like 1968Cutlassfallbrook said above, the front ends are an easy swap, you just have to find a clean one. If you don't have a car yet keep your eyes out for one that's already been swapped. I see about one a year for sale.

I agree with you! My perfect 4-4-2 would be one with a '68 front and a '69 back end! I'd change out the '69 doors for '68 doors as well because I like the wind wing on each door. Fenders might be interesting as the hood hinge attachment points for '69 fenders are different from '68, as are the hood hinges. It will be interesting to see if you could keep the '69 fenders with '69 hood hinges and if those '69 hood hinges will fit onto a '68 hood.

wings

thanks for the heads up on the hinges ....i haven't had a cutlass for 25 + yrs and then it was a 1972 supreme (square quarters) I never liked the rounded rears but liked the 68-9 post look, now i'm hooked. I'm a wing window fan too since my 65 impala has um, now everything needs them!! Are door panels different on a post?

The 69 hinges where they connect to the hood have a different spacing than 68 but they are close. The holes can be elongated to work.

The fenders can be modified or washers can be used to build up the one (of the three) location where the 69 hinge doesn't sit flush. There are also many "dual pattern" fenders out there. GM replacement fenders had both patterns. Some of them have backer nuts for both style hinges, some only have 69 backer nuts.

I modified a 68 fender to the dual pattern (my other already had the dual pattern) but never really got the 69 hinges to work correctly (I actually had 70 hinges but they are the same as 69) so I ended up using the "head knocker" 68 hinges.
