1966 425 Flexplate
1966 425 Flexplate
Need a flexplate for a 1966 425. Recently picked up this motor that was supposedly originally out of a Torofnado, then moved to a Cutlass. Cutlass must have been a manual, as the motor came with a flywheel. We are now trying to install it into our 1974 Toronado and the flexplate from our 455 won't fit due to the different bolt pattern.
There should be several of us who have these. Would you post your location or a nearby big city so if someone is close to you they can speak up? The flywheel would fit the 1964-67 330, 400, 425 if you want to sell it I'd encourage you to create a parts for sale thread posting pictures and your general location. Shipping costs would be more significant for a flywheel than flexplate! John
Thanks, John. We are located just outside of Cleveland. I just posted an intro thread in the newbie forum, but didn’t think to post my location. I will go back and update.
As we have no need for the flywheel, we can certainly post that up for sale.

Thank you, Bob. So far, nothing close to home, but I do have one other lead, but the logistics associated with that one might dictate an extended turn around time. Anxious to get this motor in the car - we literally had it hanging over the engine bay when we realized our flex plate would not work
. If you have time, please PM me to discuss.

Thank you, Nick. FYI - another forum member has reached out with a plate for sale, but you are closer. Hoping to have this in hand by next weekend, which I realize might be unrealistic given that Monday is a holiday. If it is too much trouble to dig it out, no worries.

FYI - Nick has me covered with the flexplate and hopefully (fingers crossed!) it gets here in time to get the motor in the car this coming weekend (no pressure
).
Also, I want to give a shoutout to Bob (Rocketman269V) and to 11971four4two who both stepped up with a flexplate to offer.
I'll be posting some pics of the car soon in the Toronado forum as soon as I can get the damn pics from my phone to the PC. Been struggling with this all weekend and keep getting sync errors
.
Thanks again,
Luke

Just to put a bow on this - Nick got the flex plate to us on Wednesday
. We got the motor into the car on Thursday and now just need to complete hooking it all up, including swapping the non-toro intake with the one from our 455, as the hood won't close with the one that came with the 425.

We put the '66 425 into a '74 Toronado while we get the issues with our 455 sorted. The 425 came with several parts that don't belong to a Toronado, including the oil pan/pump/pickup and the intake manifold. The intake that came with our 425 is a 398662 and we are going to swap it for the 412493 that came on the 455 with the Toronado. I believe the carb sits a bit lower on the Toro manifold.
