I have a friend looking for a correct/original Water Pump and Crank pulley for a 1957 Olds Super 88 (J2 motor). Don't want any super pitted, bent, warped, etc pieces.....looking for nice stuff.
These are SUPPOSEDLY the same as the 394 motors BUT I don't know that for sure......maybe someone w/some expertise on this era motor, etc can chime in. I don't know the PN's for the pulleys either.
Does your friend's car have factory A/C ?
A/C cars used 3 groove pulleys. Others only two.
The crank pulley is part of the vibration damper.
The factory number for the non A/C damper is 569168, and the A/C damper is 569170.
These fit 1957 only. Certainly not a 394.
Now the water pump pulley is a different story.
The two groove pulley for non A/C part number is 571396. and it fits 52 thru 62 models.
The 3 groove pulley for A/C cars has number 566419
Charlie - Excellent info and VERY helpful. I'll go over this info w/the guy tomorrow and come back w/some answers....like me, he doesn't know much about motors from this era either. He is a professional mechanic but their shop needs help on this project.
Turns out that we need ONE pulley then.......PN 571396 (2 groove '52 - '62 non-AC). Thanks
That's assuming that it has power steering, as most of them had.
I've only ever seen one '57 Olds without power steering.
I actually owned it for a while. It was a beast to parallel park.
........and....does anyone HAVE a known PN 571396 two row pulley that they can tell has a PN STAMPED INTO THE PULLEY? (doesn't need to be "for sale".....just trying to see if the PN is stamped into the pulley we're looking for).
Here's a pic of the stamping that my buddy found on the single row pulley that's on the motor now...
