1940 straigt 8 engine

I would like to find a 1940 Olds 90 series straight 8 engine, otherwise I am going to have to change to late model 350. Many have changed over from the original engine to the hot rodding motors so there surely is one out there. email me at psmith@valdeseweavers.com.

Smile 1940 Straight 8 engine

Thanks you Shot Gun Rich for the response. I would like to go back with the straight 8 engine to keep it original for the 90 series Oldsmobile of 1940. I would like to find some front fenders, hood, or additional radiator if you have anything for the 90 series. I may come back to you later on the six, but for now I would love to find everything you have in the straight 8. Mine is also a manual straight drive. Psmith

After pouring over my Hollanders Interchange Manual it appears to indicate that any 1940-1948 8 cylinder engine except the 1948 "98" would interchange.

Detail:
Hollanders Interchange Manual #16 says 37-48 all interchange except the 1948 '98' which is apparently different, but it doesn't elaborate. ( Page 273).
However the notes on the 8 cylinder interchange, #469 page 276 says
"Olds '37-48 8 exc. "98" Note: Blocks same '37-40 & '41-47. Trans fit."

In the transmission interchange section it says 40-48 standard transmissions interchange.

I don't know exactly what to make of that note except I would guess there was some difference to accommodate a different transmission even though the blocks are the same. I think 1940-41 was about the time Olds started offering Hydramatic transmissions so I would guess any difference had something to do with fitting a hydramatic. Maybe some external bosses etc. to fit hydramatic controls?

Sorry if that complicates your search a bit but it seemed like information that would be useful in your search.
Jerry
