Just for clarification that is a Cutlass cruiser not a Vista Cruiser. The Vista would have the three windows on the top rear section.

That's a nice parts car. Good luck with the sale. Too bad it won't get back on the road. Not many flat top wagons. Does it have a title perhaps?

 

How much for the whole car?

 

Can you post a picture of the inside tailgate handle on the right side. What kind of shape is the rubber strip and step on the rear of the body in?

Ill get a pic posted of the inside right handle. I dont have the key to the doors as the auction house gave me the wrong key, I had to get into the column and change the IGN cylinder just to get it off the trailer, so I cant open the tailgate right now, no key. Any pointers on getting open??

The car does have a clear TX title and I would consider selling it whole, its a 455/ turbo 400 wagon, but most of the parts on it usable on a 2 dr cutlass are going to my 71 Cutlass S project, so if you want my good stuff it will cost you, specifically $2200.

I was really trying to let the wagon guys have a stab at the wagon specific parts at a cheap price before I totally strip it for what I need and then sell for scrap iron steel.

If the tailgate is similar to my 64 Vista, to get the tailgate open, crawl into the back and remove the interior tailgate panel. Locate the tailgate window motor and remove it. Mine is attached with 3 large flat head machine screws. This should unlock the window. If the glass is still properly attached to the springed regulator the glass may come down a little or stay up. You should now be able to push down on the glass and hold it down to open the tailgate if things aren't too crusty. The regulator is under tension when the glass is in the down position,and the tension is off when the glass is in the up position, be careful. To remove the glass, open the tailgate in the flat position and put the window in the up position, best to have a helper hold the glass while you locate and remove the bolts that hold the glass to the regulator.
My window motor still works well. I believe most electric tailgate windows don't work because of bad wiring, which was my problem, or switches.

Put a battery in the car, look under the dash on the left side near the fusebox there is a 3 wire harness with a light blue, a tan with white tracer, and an orange/black. jump the orange/black wire to the tan with white tracer and the window should open.

 

I'm interested in the wheels and dog dish caps. Don't need tires. How much shipped to Maryland 21152? What radio? Will PM you.

That is a good deal! I have my 70 flattop so I am a bit partial to them. There were a lot less of these flattop wagons produced than the Vistas. If I remember correctly, I believe there were about 5x as many Vistas made so flattops are pretty rare. I would want to keep it complete with original motor and trans if possible. I have 2 complete 72 455/4 bbl motor and trans and would have traded one of them if I was buying the car just to keep the wagon complete and original. I am just happy to hear that it is being saved and not completely parted out!

 

The 455s have gotten hard to find, here in Houston I know of one bone yard that has one, he caters to the older stuff but dang near holds em for ransom. He wanted $750 for a complete pull out on a 71 big body. I now compete with him at the dealer auctions for all the olds stuff of this era, beat him on this one.

I have been buying every one I could find for several years now. Had to buy whole cars to get most of them. I have not found one in a couple years though. Looks like a buddy of mine is buying this to save it. Glad it did not get parted out.

 

Glad it will be saved. After its restored, we should start planning another FlatTop re-union.

 

It's next door to the pick ur part on the north side on that side street off I-45 near west mount Houston. The car sold out of a Dallas inop auction last summer.

 

About one year later. It's in my shop now. Getting parts off the vista that I need for this. Then I will start the rebuild.
