This is a 71-72 Buick GM A body 10 bolt 8.5 rear with the bolt in axles . It has the Eaton newer style posi , Moser axles with long 1/2 by 20 studs , HD retainer plates , 4:10 after market ring and pinion , new upper control arm bushings , drum to drum . Brakes are in excellent condition and probably just need to be bled . Tubes are welded at the center section for strength . This is a low usage rear end and is in great shape . Posi is a Eaton # 19557-1. Ring and pinion are marked GM10-411-MW-10x41. These are Mark Williams ring and pinion and the good Eaton posi .See pictures . Rear could use a little clean up from dust and sitting around but is very clean with no pitting .Asking $775 , Pick up in Hebron Illinois , zip 60034 prefer pick up and cash . thanks BOB

It's the ratio that is holding people back,but with a lot of you guys converting to overdrive transmissions,this is perfect.

 

I have 28-spline in mine. I would jump on this if it were 30 or above. The ratio doesn't bother me. I have 3.90's now.

 

This rear end is a fabulous deal. Unless you are running mid 11s or faster the 28 spline axles are fine. For most street cruisers this rear end will be more than adequate. A 28" tall rear tire will help tame that 4.10 ratio.

My car is around 3600 lbs. and runs low 12's to high 11's depending on weather and the setup. I was twisting the splines on my stock 28 spline axles, so I went with aftermarket ones. Of course, I run a spool. That makes a difference. I would just want to upgrade the spline (for me) at this point. Wish now, I would have spent the money before when I had the chance and it was apart.

I'd be all over this if wasnt so far away great deal.

 

I haven't had any issues with the stock 28-spline shafts,in an A-body,running 11:70's or slower.They have been in the 3800-4000lb range,slicks or drag radials,and foot brake. A clutch,trans brake,or anything else that adds a blunt force at home plate,would put more stress on the shaft.
The aftermarket axles,like the Mosers,are made of a better material than OEM,and can take even more abuse,even with the same 28-spline.
If I built a rear,like the one above,it would be $1600.00. You can't build it,even with factory shafts,for what Bob is asking.

 

I know. You are correct. This is at the very least a $950 to $1200 differential. BTW, I foot-brake, too.

 

wish it was closer but a 15 hour drive is rough.
