I believe that is a 7-72 trunk light. The 68-69 trunk lights were activated by a mercury switch.

And I have the original round mercury switch trunk lamps in both my '68 (purchased new by my parents) and '69 4-4-2 convertibles. It was my understanding that Olds went to the lever switch in the '70 model year but perhaps that happened a bit later?

Trunk light

I believe that is for 70-72. All the bone stock 68-9 cars I've seen have never had a light in them like that

Would have been added to a 69 but the cool thing is, That one is 70 only and VERY hard to find in good condition. The 70 only light has the real small vent hole in the top and always got melted if the trunk was left open for a long time. The 71-72 had a much larger hole to prevent them from melting... but some still did melt. All that said, it does not make them worth more, just a little trivia for you.
