For the purists

I made a batch of 68-72 battery tubes with the little spiral like the originals. This adds a lot of time to the process, and the way i need to chuck them up in lathe i end up loosing enough material that im one less than the previous batches. These are made from the same electrical insulating garolite just like the originals and my previous batches. I have auto and 4 speed tubes. Thanks Brandon

Brandon, excuse my ignorance could you explain what a battery tube is and where it is found. As you can tell this is not my era of expertise but my quest for knowledge and curiosity made me ask... Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

The battery positive cable passes through it on the way to the starter, to keep exhaust manifold heat from melting the cable casing.

Were these tubes used on 68-72 only?

Brandon, thanks. Looks like 387945 or 397769 is required for my 66 Cutlass. Is that correct?
Thanks

No, car is still in storage. Should be out 4/1. Waiting for weather to break. It will be the first thing I look at when I bring her home.
Thanks

Brandon, I have found nothing in the 66 assembly manual or CSM referring to this part. How did you clarify enough to produce.

Car is home and I can see the tube. I can probably get the measurements for y however I don't intend on taking it out. Are you still intererested in the dimensions.

Yes. Do you have a dial caliper? Measurements need to be precise.

I'll do my best. For now here is some information. If you can check out page 12-2.13 in the 1966 Cutlass assembly manual. There are three applications. I would scan the page but my scanner is dead.
Thanks
