Dick Miller is reproducing them, but the initial run is small, 50 units I heard. If you want it, don't delay.

OUCH! $850...? I realize an original is probably more expensive than that..What exactly (functionally) did the W31 damper do different than the regular 350 damper?

The W31 damper dampened vibrations to a higher rpm, we are told. Today, it is used for correct appearance (and good function) usually. If racing, an aftermarket SFI approved damper is generally preferred. It would be cheaper if a big run of them were made, due to fixed costs included in the overall cost of the run. However, making 10,000 of them would probably leave 9,900 of them on the shelf.

Never having owned a W-31, I have this question. Is the inner part of the balancer the same and only the outer ring is different? If so, you probably know where this is going...

The DMR outer ring simply appears to have been turned from round stock. Damper rebuilders should be able to mate the new outer ring with an old hub.

We discarded that big "hunk of iron" when we raced our W-31 cars. The extra weight in the rotating mass was totally useless for performance. We used the smallest balancer we could find and they performed fine when the assembly was internally balanced. Today it is just the "hype" of number-matching mentality that has driven the price to astronomoical heights! (Moo - of course)!!
