Your existing O4B intake can be machined for the rear butterflies to clear. The material is there, and many people have done this, including myself.

edelbrock 04b

yea ive seen some of the ones that were machined out, and would have done mine. but when you lay a carb gasket of the top it becomes pretty obvious it wont work. the material around the flange is so narrow if i cut it out to accept the Q-jet butterflies i will be cutting right through the side of it, also theres only about 1/2 inch of material at the front of the flange, and the carb will extend past that createing a large vacume leak. this is definantly a holley flange. i could use a 3/4 inch adaptor plate but im afraid that would be too tall, and not much shorter than a performer.

I've seen about 3 different castings of the O4B. I have seen a designated Q-jet flange,a 4150 flange with extra material for machining, and another 4150 with thinner gasket rails.Sounds like you have the 3rd one.

just wondered how tight a fit it is with the 04b intake under your OAI hood. i can get a 3/4 inch adaptor plate, and they tell me if i remove the rubber seal from the bottom of the OAI breater i can save another 1/4 inch space. but would like to talk to someone whos running one to see how tight a fit it is. TIA steve

The O4B is a stock height style intake.I don't care too much for those adapters, but in certain situations, what can you do.The OAI top foam will not be an issue. The critical point is the upper section of the flapper. If you have any type of molding clay, maybe you can place it at the highest point, shut the hood, then measure the thickness after it has been compressed.Might want to use wax paper or something against the screen,so you don't make noodles.

The O4B works with the OAI system.

The only mod is you have to extend the heat riser tube by about 2" by adding a piece of exhaust pipe to it.

The O4B is about 3/4" taller than a stock manifold.
