V code B heads, cheap or scrap? Delivered to Homecoming
V code B heads, cheap or scrap? Delivered to Homecoming
I have a set of V code B heads from a 66 442. They were pulled in the 70s and stored in a bad location. They have lots of pitting and all the valve and springs are junk. I was thinking about scrapping them but my local machine shop said they would be ok if someone needed them and wanted to spend the money on them to rebuild them. I am not going to ship them but can bring them to homecoming. $75 for the set.
I am going to do a major cleaning this summer in my attached garage and if I still have them at that time I will likely scrap them along with several other sets of J and 8 heads. I will try to get pictures later.

Two things really. For this set I would prefer someone look at them in person to be sure they want them and the other is that it is a pain to box and ship heads. For $75 selling price it is not worth it to me to box them. I also will not ship without the heads being checked out because of almost being cheated for $3000 on a set of F heads. It would cost me the $75 to get them apart, cleaned and checked with a 50 mile round trip drive to my nearest machine shop. Just not worth it. If someone wants them at homecoming I would prefer that. I would consider shipping if someone wants to pay all the above and they don't sell to someone that can pick them up.
Please don't scrap 'em
I sure wished there was another option. After lucking on to an E block 400 for my 66 I had to build a set of Ga heads to put on it. Still would like the right ones and the price is right for cores ( for me). I know a couple people in your state to contact for possible pickup. Any pics yet?
I am holding off temporarily with these heads. Not sure when I will have time but I will attempt to get them apart and cleaned up. I just got another set of heads and may take 4 sets to the shop and have them all checked at the same time. If I put the time into them I will have to have more money. He charges me $50 per set to clean and check and he is a 50 mile round trip drive.
Ok.
For what it's worth, my interest is in the novelty of having the correct heads for my car. It will never be numbers matching or correct and most likely will never get installed, so their condition isn't nearly as important as the letters are (to me anyway).
