Parting out 1972 Cutlass S

Updated with picturesYes, I'm trying to clean out the clutter! I've got a 1972 Cutlass S that I'd slowly been picking parts from over the last couple years. A member on this site has expressed interest in the passengerside quarter panel and the top half of the firewall to get the metal dash under the windshield. So I've decided its time to break out the sawzall and buy a package of blades! I drove this car for a while but when a friend and I removed the vinyl top it exposed a large rusted area at the top of both the front and rear windshields. There is no rust through at the bottom of the quarter panels and the floorpan looks really nice, so it may not have leaked much until we pulled the vinyl off The drivers side had slid up against something that left a can opener type rip in the quarter panel on that side, but the bottom looks fine. The pass door looks nice but the drivers door also got some damage from whatever cut the quarter panel. The deck lid is very nice, the fenders have rust behind the front tires. OK, to get things started here's a few items with prices not including shipping. Contact me with any specific parts you need.

Deck lid with trim $150, without trim $125
Fenders with trim $125 each, without $75 each
Core support, rust under battery $100
Saddle Dash pad w/no cracks(I have other colors too) $75
Pass door w/guts removed to reduce weight $150
Front and rear bumpers for cores, not rusty but dented $40 each

I also have a 1971 Cutlass 4 door that's in similar condition. I'll cut the bottoms of the rear quarter panels off to be used as patch panels before it goes away. Any 4 door specific parts would be priced to cover my time to pull and package, nothing more.

I've added a few pictures, more can be seen on my photobucket site/folder of: http://s90.photobucket.com/upload/al...72+Cutlass+442

When you say the hardware, is that the mounting hardware? Is there anything else you'd want with it? Would you send me your zip code so I can get a shipping estimate too. John

I think I've got a wiper motor and washer bottle but they're not on this car. I'll have to dig around a little and let you know what I come up with.

HAMM36 (Carl might be interested in the front side maker lights, if they are orange and not faded.

That front bumper looks cherry in the picture - how does it compare to the back one I got from you?

MHenderson, here's some photos of the parts I removed. Let me know if this is correct for what you need.

1001coins, I believe that panel is good. I did post pictures of the underside as seen from the trunk. I'll try to get pictures from the back seat and outside the car to add. John

Hi Steve
This was a 350/350 car, but I may have the TH400 gas pedal parts from another car. I'll look around to see what I can find. John

Hi Rob
Sorry, I read your message over breakfast and when I got back forgot to reply to it! I do need to keep that bumper for my wagon project as the wagon is bent and has the bumper-ette thingys attached. Since they're not on the back bumper I'm thinking it would look better without any on the front too. If you planned to have them on your rear bumper would you want this for the front? Or if you were going to trade bumpers with Allen, does he need them for the front of his car... if so would he have a nice front bumper for you? Here's a couple pic's of the one on the wagon. The wagon was purchased new here in Medford, so I don't expect the backside to be rusted out, just bent. John

Any '71-'72 O.A.I. hoods? Usable, something I don't need to do too much work on and cash in my 401K to buy? Thanks, Dave. (same guy as above w/ washer bottle needed)

Hi Dave
Sorry, I've been gathering parts for several years with the plans of making a 1971 flat top wagon into the high optioned "442" wagon I wish Oldsmobile had made! That's the only 1971-72 OAI hood I have. John

1001coins, I pulled most of the package tray out, it was pretty decayed from the sun. Here's a couple pictures. I need to pull the back glass to get really clear pictures. John

I'm working four 10 hours days this week, so I hope to have time on Friday or Saturday to pull parts. Right now I'm going to work in the dark, and getting home in the dark

sb-stroker, I'll get pictures of the canister mount for you.

1001coins, Chris, you've got first dibs on the panel under the package tray. I'll get better pictures once the glass is out but I believe its in good shape.

Dave, I'll look for a washer bottle next weekend.

1969w3155, I think I've got another set of the bumperettes, bumper guards, or whatever the correct name is! I'll look for them this weekend.

What's wrong with the bodyshell itself? How about a rolling shell?

How is the rear panel that connects both rear quarters beneath the trunklid? This is the panel that the trunklid weatherstrip rides in. Thanks.

Brian, what led me to part it out is:
1) When the vinyl roof was removed, I could put my fingers through a rusted area between both front and back windshields and the roof for most of the width of the glass
2) tears in the metal down the drivers side sheetmetal
3) Cracked frame
4) Reconstructed title.

Sorry I didn't first post it as a complete rolling shell. I didn't think anyone would want to pay the cost to ship something like this. I've made a commitment to a member here for the passengerside quarter panel. So unless you can offer him one that's clean for the price I quoted him on this one, I feel I need to follow through and dismantle this car. If you want to investgate it further send me a PM

442_1972, I've promised to give 1001coins first chance at the metal under the package tray. I think he also needs the piece your asking about.

OK. Gotcha. I'd probably cut it up too.
You say the frame is cracked. Is the rear section, from the axle back, pretty good?
Do you have any perfect doors, singles or pairs?

Good morning Brian
The crack in the frame is behind the left front tire, I believe the back section is good. The pass door on this car is nice, then I believe I have two sets of 1970-72 doors that are also solid and straight. They're in the back of the shed so I'd need to dig them out to get pictures. John

If 1001coins doesn't need that piece please let me know. Also, this is the piece just ahead of the rear bumper not the piece close to the package tray. Thanks.

Do either of them have front disc brakes?

I'm looking to convert my '68 442 to front discs.

My442, I don't think I've got any of those but will look. I'm thinking they make them repop at a reasonable price.

442_1972, I was mistaken on what you needed. Yes, the panel where the trunk lid latches is good and available.

68442CONVERTCO, I may have an extra disc brake setup. I'll look this weekend.

Is the AC Condenser still available? Was the system charged prior to you taking it apart? I see a little moisture on it and need to be certain that is doesn't have a leak in it. Also let me know how much you want for it.

Brian, I cut this from another frame a couple years ago for member here but lost track of them. This doesn't go all the way to the rear axle, but does it cover what you need? If not I can still cut the piece from the frame under the car.
