Original 70 71 72 F-85 w/Disc Brakes Master Cylinder "BE" w-bleeders

This is a Used ORIGINAL Brake Master Cylinder with bleeders stamped "BE" on the front machined area for 1970 Oldsmobile F-85 Models with Disc Brakes (2nd type) and 1971-1972 Oldsmobile F-85 models with Power Disc Brakes as listed in the 1972 Oldsmobile Parts Catalog (Jan. 1972) in group 4.650 as part number 5471802 and described as "CYLINDER (Moraine - code BE)".

NOTE #1: GM part number 5470664 is listed for 1970 Oldsmobile F-85 models with Disc Brakes (1st type). The 5470664 master cylinder is stamped "EB" as well as with the "5470409" casting number and was also used on 1970 Camaro models with Power Brakes.

The casting numbers on this master cylinder are as follows: "5470409", "1 1/8", "D11", and "337" (or maybe it is "357", the day of the year the master cylinder was cast).

I took all the internal parts off the master cylinder to clean it as best the I can. The buyer may want to still media blast the cast iron master cylinder and then clean it thoroughly. The cast iron master cylinder is in good restorable condition. There is some "pitting" from rust on the flat machined area where the "BE" code is stamped. A very small about of "Metal-2-Metal" can be used to fill these pits while cautiously preserving the "BE" stamping as shown in photo #4.

The rubber gasket still appears to be in good useable condition but is 50 years old and should probably be replaced with a reproduction. The GM part number for the rubber gasket (aka, reservoir diaphragm) is 5470404 as listed in the 1970, 1971, 1972 Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile parts catalog in Gr. 4.651.

The original cover is covered with heavy pitting from rust which I buffed off with my wire wheel. Most of the original stamping is extremely hard to see but it has the same stampings as the cover that was on my original 1970 Camaro master cylinder that I sold several years ago.
"SERVICE WITH" "USE SA3 J1703"
"DELCO PARTS" "DELCO BRAKE FLUID"
You can see some of these stampings in reverse on the back side of the cover. I traced some of the reversed stampings on the back side of the cover with a Sharpie fine point. These 1970 covers are extremely hard to find and I do not think they are reproduced with the same stampings as mentioned above. The GM part number of this cover listed in my vintage parts catalogs as 5470405 in Gr. 4.651. Over the years the stampings changed on these covers.

The bail which holds the cover on to the master cylinder is in very good condition.

Included in this auction is the piston and retainer "C" clip which should be discarded and replaced a new piston kit.

NOTE #2: The master cylinder should be rebuilt. Most vintage master cylinders are sleeved that are made of brass or stainless steel. This requires machine work by a professional. Simply just honing out the cylinder and installing a kit may not be enough to prevent leakage.
NOTE #3: The buyer should do their own research to make sure that this part is correct for their car.

$100 for the 5470409 master cylinder stamped "BE" plus shipping from zip code 03054 and Paypal fee (if applicable).
If interested, send me a PM.

NO LONGER FOR SALE ON THIS SITE.
